OHNO60
ANY OF YOU GUYS RUN INTO A 6.0 THAT SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE THE DECEL POP JUST ON ACCELERATION?TURBO FREE,EGR REPLACED.NO DTC'S. WHEN NOISE OCCURS BLACK SMOKE AND NO POWER. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/drinkingdude.gif
DwayneGorniak
If it is turbo flutter you are hearing, it is most likely a ceazed turbo. But if it is a popping noise it cold be a broken rocker arm and you can do a relative compression test and power ballance to find out which cylinder it is. OHNO60
THANKS DWAYNE! WASN'T A CONSISTANT POP LIKE THAT. IT WAS AT ABOUT 12-1400RPM ON ACCELERATION UNDER LOAD.SAME FLUTTER SOUND AS THE DECEL EVENTS IVE SEEN A MILLION TIMES. WELL IT ALWAYS AMAZES ME WHAT PARTS FORD SELLS. THE EGR WAS REPLACED ABOUT 1 HOUR AGO FOR A POSITION ERROR. PULLED A VISUAL ON THIS ONE AND FOUND ITS SLIGHTLY CRACKED OPEN.PASSED EGR TEST AND POSITION VOLTAGE BELOW 1.2 VOLTS. THIS VALVES A FRESH ONE TOO.WTF??? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hammer2.gif
Keith Browning
There used to be a lot of trucks that would pop out the intake under a load before we started reconditioning turbos. The majority of those trucks did this while towing. I discovered that a sticking turbo that causes an over boost condition will cause the PCM to open the EGR to slow down the turbo. When this occurs, the engine stumbles and boost backs out the intake. I don't necessarily think this is your problem because this condition does not produce smoke, but it is something to consider. Alex Bruene
I have seen the same issue with intermittent EP sensors, or damaged convertors that are intermittently causing an exhaust restriction. I think a recording of the event may be the way to go.
mchan68
I have one that is giving me some issues with surging on acceleration. Got P0299, P0470 and P0472. Monitor PIDs and the only ones out of spec is the EBP intermittently indicating 6 to 12 PSI. KOEO reading is 14.7 (normal). Tried to run IDS EGR test, first attempt failed, flagging the EBP. Second attempt passes.

OHNO60
THAT S.O.B ALMOST GOT ME. THE EGR VALVE WAS VERY SLIGHTLY CRACKED OPEN.EVEN EGRVP VOLTAGE WAS WITHIN SPEC AND PASSED ALL EGR TESTS.WHAT GOT ME WAS THE "FLUTTER" ON ACCELERATION. NEVER HEARD IT ON ACCELERATION,ONLY DECEL. TO BOOT THE TURBOCHARGER WAS LOCKING UP, FIGURED THAT WAS THE DEAL SO REPLACED IT BUT MY SURPRISE IT WAS STILL THERE. THATS WHEN I WENT FOR THE VISUAL ON THE EGR. ON PAPER LOOKS LIKE I GOT EGG ON MY FACE AND /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/icon_crazy.gif
Tony302600
I had a EGR valve that did that, passed all tests multiple times. Vehicle would blow crapload of black smoke, super slow til at about 3000rpm then would pick up. Tried a EGR valve... Walla fixed it.
