6.0 INJECTOR PERFORMANCE SHEET

ANY OF YOU GUYS HAVE ANY LUCK WITH THE INJECTOR PERFORMANCE SHEET? HAVE A 2004 F450 WITH OVERFUELING SMOKE AND SMELL AT IDLE AND WOT. RUNS GREAT AND NO POWER LOSS. FUEL PSI GOOD,POWERBALANCE SHOWS NO CONCERNS.RELATIVE COMPRESSION ALL GOOD, IDS HAS NO DTC'S AT ALL. NOT EVEN SMOKE ON ACCELERATION,CLEAN. ICP AND IPR NORMAL, NO BIASED SENSORS. I PERFORMED THE INJECTOR PERFORMANCE SHEET AND CAME UP WITH 2 CYLINDERS. WHAT DO YOU THINK BEFORE I GO AND YANK-EM

I don't recall stumbling across an injector performance sheet, anywhere.... is this on PowerStroke Central?

 

For smoking injectors, all I've ever done is drop the manifolds and watch....

Jim its in the PCED. I am used to using it for 7.3's because Ford took away power balance from us. I AM STILL REALLY PISSED OFF ABOUT THAT!!! On 6.0's we still have power balance among other tests to help us find troubled injectors. I find that if I have gotten to this test, the performance of the troubled injector is so minor that this method becomes worthless. It has never worked for me and I have trouble pinpointing actual MFDES values because the fluctuate to quickly. In theory its a great idea but unless an injector is really deficient you need to be a computer to come up with an average MFDES for each cylinder, let alone an accurate baseline. JAYZUS.. you'd think with the amount of reading I do that I would have stumbled across this at one point or another.... This is a page I do not ever recall seeing...

 

And I do see where some of the info might be "helpful"... but I think I'll stick with dropping manifolds for smoking cylinders... Still, I believe that I've had a couple in the last year or so that this worksheet may have helped....

 

And I am surprised that Hotline hasn't steered me to it in the past....

 

Sadly, the bulk of my diesel involvement for quite some time has been in "driveway diagnosis" to ensure we have the right parts on hand when the customers appointment is due.... and to help frustrated techs clarify things in their minds....

 

I'm more involved with the "unfixables" (usually something involving inappropriate test steps), answering customer questions for new vehicle sales, dealing with irate customers (see "unfixables") and getting into even more "untechnicianly" areas... even though I admonish the DP that I believe I am at the point where I can best serve the store...

 

Isn't it weird how "old folks" can digress?

 

Now, with my interest piqued, I would like to know the same thing OHNO60 would like to know.... Is this diagnostic routine viable and productive? Or is it a waste of time in the grand scheme of things?
