Ok I haven`t tried it with IDS yet,and i`m not sure that it is still supported in IDS, but here is how it worked when I did them with WDS.

1- check to make sure dlc has 12v at pin #?(I forget now)quickest way is to make sure cig lighter works as it shares power fuse w/dlc.

2- hook up to dlc and let it try and communicate w/pcm it will fail and then ask you to if you wish to pick from a list. Pick "other"

3- It will then bring you to a screen to enter calibration or tear tag. Enter ALF4 in tear tag ( that is a 1995 manual trans tear tag code, which should be what you have as in late 94MY only manual trans were behind a 7.3)

4- IF it lets you in, then pick pcm programming and let it do its thing. After done the dlc will be active and pids available.

**this will work with a wds, but I have some doubts if the IDS will do it,but worth a shot.**

They run ALOT better after doing reprogram, cust will notice more power right away...

WOW! I thought that all of those would have been converted long ago! The early trucks had both connectors because when they were built EEC-5 was just coming out. As a matter of fact I think that at the time the only EEC-5 vehicle Ford had was the just released new model called the Windstar... ooooooh! My thinking was that the Power Stroke had been in development for some time as an EEC-4 vehicle it wasn't feasible to change it before production but perhaps they were able to wire it up with the DLC.

Long story short, the first trucks could be reprogrammed to EEC-5 using SBDS after which the EEC-4 connector under the hood became useless. The new program included improved diagnostics and PID information available through the DLC. Ricksters idea should work but I have never run into this situation. I still had a working SBDS when any of these first trucks came in.

it worked using ids after putting in the tear tag info and looking through a list a mile long of mavricks, fairlanes and other old model car names to choose from anyway i chose all others and put in the tear tag above and it reflashed the pcm and it worked thanks!!!

The sad thing about learning that IDS will work is that the only truck the wasn't done 10+ years ago has now thanks to Kevin been updated and nobody else will never need this info again. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif
