Spring Clamps

Am I the only one that has had problems with the spring type hose clamps found on radiator and heater hoses? I did radiator hoses in a 2004 F-Series with a 6.0l yesterday and I had a tough time getting the clamp to release where it goes to the front cover and then after it was all done, the hose would leak from that same connection when I was wiggling the lower hose, making sure it wasn't going to contact the steering gear like the origional hose did. I ended up having to disconnect the radiator hose to get the spring clamp off so I could use a worm clamp.

I have probably been burned by this 3 times in the last 15 years. Does anyone ever have problems with theese clamps too? I'm tempted to just remove theese clamps from the hoses and use the trusty old worm clamp and never get burned by it agian. There is no way that I did any damage to the clamp when I was trying to get it to release.

The key to the spring clamps is to get them back in their original position..... quite easy to do if you have one of these.

I agree, but this was a brand new hose with a spring clamp already glued to the new hose. The other times I have been burned was with new hoses with new spring clamps too.

LOL!!! I have that exact same tool. Do you know how many guys in the shop are borrowing it all the time, along with my ball joint press for Taurus ball joints? Works great doesn't it?

Actually, I don't really have a toolbox..... That big red thing in my bay is "the tool crib".... There isn't anyone in the shop that doesn't borrow <something(s)> from me..... Going back to another thread.... I've been too avid at collecting tools over the decades and I have many tools that are no longer available... Many tools that were originally designed for other uses but now are reborn (valve tappet wrenches are a good bet)... even my collection of distributor wrenches.

I have guys that borrow the same tool over and over and over (tools that ARE available) ad infinitum. I explain that if I borrow a tool once... that's life.... if I borrow the same tool twice... I should sit up and take notice.... if I borrow it a third time, perhaps I might actually need one of my own. In return, I receive a blank look....

What is very irksome is having to go look for those tools I bought to make 'my' life easier..... My time-saving tool turns into a time wasting tool. Explain that this isn't what I bought it for.... yep - blank look.

Ahhhh, tools.... touch them...... admire them.... caressssss them....... ummm, where was I? Fetish? What fetish?
