6.4 fuel mileage

We just had one our Customer/Employee appreciations day's here at work. BBQ ribs and all the fixins. Great time.

I was talking with one of our customers who just recently purchased a 08 6.4 F450. He is pissed off about only getting 5-6 mph with it. He also purchased a Superchip tuner from us(I didn't sell it, WON'T) He was voicing out about the crappy mileage it get's, after talking for a while found out he has 4.88 gears in it and also pulls a 4 place horse trailer with it. I tried to explain to him that this is a work truck and won't get decent mileage with it, but to no avail, according to him I still didn't know what I was talking about,(go figure the customer knows best, HA) I told him if he wanted mileage he should have bought a F250 instead. He didn't like my reply. I hate that the government has the est. fuel mileage on all of the stickers on the trucks, these guy's think this is gospel or something of the sort. Ford really needs to clarify this...

Maybe I was wrong on my statement about the window stickers,( I personnally have not seen them, my bad ) but I believe the end users think that all F-series trucks should get about the same mileage. At least the one that was in my store today did. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif

I think the "salesmen" should be educating the customers a little better. I know I know salesmen don't care, they sell it we deal with it.

A bad delivery is all too common. Many diesel owners are much more knowledgeable than you average car buyer though. They crave information and just looking at some of the forums you will see why... then again, looking at some forums you will see why so many people have no clue of have been fed bad advice and information. I doubt any sales person is going to share poor fuel economy info during a sales pitch.

I get asked all the time what the expected fuel mileage on the 6.4 powered rigs will be. We first ran into problems on one of the first units we sold, the salesman told the customer he could expect around 16-20 mpg. He returned mad as hell with about 12 mpg. My usual response now when asked about the mileage of these rigs is bad, very bad followed by around 11 give or take.

I had two customers with 450's and 4.88 gears complaining about 7-8 mpg with less than 5,000 miles. We told them with those gears what do you expect. A 450 is not a grocery getter it's for hauling and I bet it does a damn good job of it.

THE MILEAGE DEFINITLY GOES UP.IVE SEEN AS HIGH AS 24 MPG ON HIGHWAY FOR ABOUT 5 HOURS OF DRIVING. AS FAR AS YOU 4.88 F450, 7-8 IS ABOUT WHAT I'VE BEEN SEEING.AFTER ALL WHAT DO THEY EXPECT FROM A DUAL WHEEL TRUCK? THAT TRUCK HAS THE ROLLING RESISTANCE OF A SHERMAN TANK!
