21dieseltech
ive got a 08 f250 with a 6.4l. and every now and then, it just starts smoking, and when i say smoking i mean, you cant even see the front of the truck while sitting in the drivers seat. its a dark soot like smoke from the exhaust pipe, now i know that some is normal due to the dpf regen, but this is way way way excessive. hotline says its normal. but there is no way this much smoke can be normal. fuel sample turned up nothing. could for not have come up with a better way to clean the exhaust out? anyone else ever run into this problem?? Keith Browning
Eric, welcome to the DTS! If it's heavy black smoke then we might consider checking for a damaged DPF. I know its normal for a whiff of visible black smoke under acceleration but if you have billowing smoke then the DPF is not functioning as designed. I have read several posts of DPFs coming apart or breaking up or leaks somewhere in the exhaust system. Try these topics as well: BLACK SMOKE ON INITIAL ACCELERATION What's Inside a DPF?
