ablokzyl
I have an 03 F550 6.0l that wont start. I diagnosed it to be an inop cam sensor. When I went to pull it out it broke off flush with the block. Hotline says to drill it out, but I dont know how much good thats gonna do. Does anyone have any ideas on how to remove it? LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
Any chance of getting a o'ring pick up there to get it out?
Bruce Amacker
Yuck. Heat up a long thin sheet metal screw and twist it into the broken stub. Let it cool and pry the bastard out. Good Luck! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
Jim Warman
I haven't had the pleasure - but here's what I'd probably try... Using about a 1/8th bit, drill into it about 3/4 inch or so.... bottom a #8 sheetmetal screw in it (choose one long enough so you have a good purchase point for later....). Soak it with Kroil and leave it for a while.... Soak it with Kroil again and leave it for another while. See if you can get it to turn using your embedded screw.... Getting it to turn will be the first step towards success...
Keith Browning
Wow! A cam sensor? I have broken half a dozen crank sensors but never one of those. I hope the tip isn't damaged from being hit by the timing pin on the camshaft. Bruce's idea is probably the best idea. When I break a crank sensor the guts usually come out with the top of the sensor. I thread a tap into the cup that is left behind and usually that does the trick. ablokzyl
Well i screwed a 3 inch screw in about an inch and a half then put a pair of visegrips on the screw for something to pry against. I then pried with my 3 foot bar and it wouldnt budge. Ive been spraying it with BG penatrating oil for a few days but it still wont move. The hotline engineer says that the inner o-ring is the one that is stuck.

Jim Warman
Try the Kroil... this is the stuff in the orange can for the 5.4 spark plugs... this stuff can be amazing... Try to get the sensor to turn. This will help break the O-ring loose.
LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
Kroil/PB blaster the saga goes on, who's better??? That's up to each persons preference. I like PB but then there is Kroil also. It's all up to your individual preference...
Aaron_Johnson
Like Jim says get it turning and use a good penetrating oil....I prefer the cxc-51A Ford stuff. I had one break off on me like that. I took the p/s pump off, threaded in a long screw and made a short little slide hammer out of 5/16 rod, some washers and a heavy socket. It worked for me but sounds like yours is siezed worse than mine was. Good luck

ablokzyl
Just thought that I would tell you that I finally got the broken sensor out. I ended up making a slide hammer out of a long sheetrock screw and a heavy socket like was suggested in an earlier post. That worked like a charm. Thanks for all the help.
