jaysonfordtech
I have a 7.3 that I think may have a delamination issue. This is the first one I have run into. I did a inlet restriction test and got 25 inches at idle, and a pump that moans like crazy. How often have you guys seen injector damage from tanks comming apart on 7.3's? Jim Warman
I haven't yet had the pleasure of dealing with a fuel tank delam... but my limited experience has shown me that 7.3 injectors are more forgiving of poor operating conditions. Possibly because fuel pressure problems result in a none-running engine more readily than the 6.0.... Then again, my ass may be in the slough in "intake" mode. OHNO60
IVE SEEN A TON WITH TANK FAILURES YIELDING TANK REPLACEMENTS,SENDERS,FLUSHING ON 7.3 EQUIPTED TRUCKS.BUT HONESTLY NEVER AN INJECTOR FAILURE FROM IT. THE FAILURES I SEE ALLOT ARE HP PRESSURE SIDE CONSTANTLY LEAKING FROM SPILL PORT DURING AIR TEST. NOW THE 6.0'S WE SEEN YOUR LIGHTING THE FUSE WHEN A FUEL RESTRICTION IS FOUND.THOSE INJECTORS YOU CANT HANDLE LOW FUEL.
Alex Bruene
I've gotta agree. I've seen quite a few 7.3s with fuel pressure issues... fix the fuel pressure, and they normally run just fine.
LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
Quote: I have a 7.3 that I think may have a delamination issue What makes you think you have a Delam. issue? I understand the restrictions issues and all, but have you torn it down yet to confirm?
eastendpowerstroke
Jayson don't forget to replace or disassemble and clean the screens in the tank pickup when you replace the tank. P.S. Keith is there any way to get back photos from the old servers I had a bunch of delamed tank shots that are gone now?
jaysonfordtech
Im not sure I have a delam issue, I am sure I have a restriction. I have seen the screens in the pickup tube plug before, I p/a'd tank, p/u tube, pump, filter and updated vent. I alway try to give a worst case p/a until I get the tank out so the writer can let the customer know that it could be xxx amount but it may be less depending on what we find. BTW this is a 00 f450 with 205k miles on it. Thanks guys
Mekanik
Maybe it is a coincudince, but I have had many F450s come in with a few bad injectors and a plugged fuel pick-up. The place I used to work had a customer with large fleet of stake beds with aft axle tanks. They wouldn't bring the trucks in until they wouldn't run anymore. Most of them would get a new tank with the revised vent, filter, cleaned out fuel lines and a few injectors. Some times the truck would come back in a few days with another injector or 2 that has failed. Now is this because it has been run on low fuel pressure of just because it has150,000 to 300,000 miles on it? Maybe it is a combination of both.
