George
I got an 04 F450 6.0. Came in with popping out intake. Found bad roller lifter caused excessive valve lash and roller was mushroomed in bore. Dropped short block in it and heads due to coolant in cylinder 7. While its apart put egr cooler and oil cooler. Finished puuring truck together on Saturday. Cranked forever and no start. Checked Icp and 0 psi removed oil filter and no oil at filter. Oil pressure gauge on dash not showing pressure. First time taking engine apart, has anybody seen this before? Any suggestions?
Bruce Amacker
Did you crank it a while with the oil filter out? Perhaps it is an air lock in the system not allowing the low pressure side to bleed. If you did that, overfill the crankcase and jack it up a bit to help the LPOP bleed. Other than the remote chance of the pressure regulator sticking in the front cover, I'm not aware of any pattern failures. Good Luck! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
ktmlew
This is probably a dumb question but does the short block come with the front cover on it?
snw blue by you
Nope it does not, at least according to the parts sales reference manual, of which I keep a copy. Sounds like an issue with the cover/low side pump. Also are you closing the check valve in the oil filter housing? Was it damaged in any way, allowing the oil to drain right back into the crankcase? Does it have oil in it? Why wasn't a long block installed if the heads were being replaced as well?

Alex Bruene
Maybe pull the plug out of the front cover and see if the oil pressure regulator is stuck in the bore.
Keith Browning
OK...if a roller lifter came apart the oil pump likely has damage or debris in the relief valve? Oh wow! I forgot about this. If he re-used the front cover he should have claened and inspected the pump... I recall the same failure, take a look - http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/photographs/index7.php
