snw blue by you
I found this obviously incorrect oil filter in a customer's '06 350. It was towed in as a crank, no start. Absolutely no ICP and I mean none, not even a little, ZERO psi. Sooooo... lets remove the filter and see if we have base pressure, WTF? No oil in housing and filter was fairly dry as well as obviously short. Install new filter and surprise surprise, it starts and runs. The customer says the filter has been in there for at least a month, maybe 2, I call bullshit as the drain valve was not even close to being closed, the filter is an inch shorter than OEM easy, and, well I know this guy and his stories change everytime you hear them. Whatever, frankly I don't care. I would however like to know what this filter goes to. Anybody? What say you Bruce?
Keith Browning
The short filter goes in the 4.5L Power Stroke in a LCF.

LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
It is a LCF filter but does it have the brand or part # on the filter you pulled out? Looks kinda like a Fram. Just off hand be careful guy's, have been seeing quite a few of the 7.3's and 6.0 turbos burning up bearings after a p/m. Have seen a lack of lube at startup and cooking them. Try to crank it over without starting it first to get lube to the turbo. I don't know maybe disconnect the IPR so it doesn't start right up. Has anybody else seen this? snw blue by you
Thanks guys! I really appreciate the info. The LCF never occured to me and I have never worked on one as we do not sell them, and to be honest I think I have seen about a half dozen on the road in this area since their release (unlike a Mitsubishi). What the customer said sort of makes sense now, as he said the oil was serviced at a local heavy truck dealer that continues to sell Ford. However he also said it was serviced last at a tire shop, or maybe a PEP Boy's or or or... He suffers from a chemical induced haze, so who the hell knows. Anyways, thanks so much, I knew I'd find the answer here.
LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
On second thought and another look at the filter...It almost looks like a Benz. filter that I used to sell at the Ford dealer. And seeing that it was made in Germany says a liitle bit about it. Any other #'s on the filter? Don't worry about the cigarettes, I think that the Diesel fumes and soot has already done its damage. Just off hand what is the Vise-Grip thing in the background?
Aaron
This I can answer. It's a can coolie, for keeping beer cold. I got 4 or 6 of 'em in a box kit of vise-grips.
Alex Bruene
It is a LCF filter but does it have the brand or part # on the filter you pulled out? Looks kinda like a Fram.Did you know... Fram 6.0 oil filters are actually repackaged Racor filters? We have tonnes of customers that get them at the local WM for about 1/8 the price of a MotorCraft. Jim Warman
Oh, no... another digression... "back in the day" Ford sold CFL-1s (locally, they were $2.99) as well as FL-1As (back then, $7.95). One was a "consumer" filter built for price... the other was "THE" oil filter. If a warranty repair required that the motor oil be changed, Ford did not pay for it... but for the claim to be paid, the filter installed HAD to be the FL1-A. There are very few things I buy in life using price as a major factor. Not sure if I postedthis link before.
