Keith Browning
Since the new Fiesta will not have the diesel engine option for North America I found something else to consider, especially if oil prices continue to rise. There are Two in my area, one right in the neighborhood. It is actually made by Mercedes Benz and it boasts great fuel economy and cost of ownership. For something to go back and forth to work it might actually be a smart car to have. smartusa.com
Shlep
One of our sister stores here in Windsor sells those things, not bad as long as you tint the windows really dark and drive through unpopulated area's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif
jaysonfordtech
Check out motor trends review of the car. I believe it was ranked one of the worst they have ever driven.
Aaron
It's even got backpack straps on the bottom, so you can carry it around with you when you aren't driving it. I did a safety check on one of those at the store I used to work at - they are a PAIN to get up on the hoist, and there's no oil pan drain plug. They suck the oil out the dipstick tube. And the shifter/ignition is kinda poorly placed - if you shift it into second gear in the same manner I did - you'll shut the ignition off cause your forearm hits the key. Apparently, they are not using the diesel in them anymore from what I heard it will not meet the emissions standards.
Keith Browning
I tell ya though, this one WILL fit in a Super Duty pick-up bed!
Alex Bruene
When they were still available with a diesel engine, they were advertising 85 MPG. But for some reason they decided to drop the diesel. One of the local diesel performace shops has one done up to the teeth... scary...
Jim Warman
We have two of these come in to town on a near daily basis - not sure who the owners are or what they do (or where they get the cars serviced). I live in the middle of the Alberta boreal forest... it is common to see a deer carcase in the ditch..... even the not so odd moose carcase. I don't think that I would enjoy using one of these cars to put that carcase there.... Keith, it looks like you'd need a roof rack just to carry home a two four of beer (that would be Canadian beer..).
SteveS
It seemd to me that they were only reated at about 40 MPG Hiway, caused me to remember that the Geo Metro was rated about 52 Hiway, 15 years ago. Wasn't it, or am I suffering Old Timer's Disease? I recently heard that the Smart had a high crash rating, which really surprised me until I heard that they are rated as to how well they do when crashed into a similar size vehicle. I looked briefly at the website to verify either of those items and did not find those answers but did find: The engine needs premium fuel. They clain it has a top speed of 90 MPH! They clain it has a top speed of 90 MPH! Yes, I saw that too while I was glancing over the technical specs. I guess that fuel is needed for that 10.0:1 compression 3-banger in order to achieve that whopping 70hp /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif With the higher cost of high test fuel, combined with the not so cheap price of the car itself, the not so outstanding fuel consumption, to me equals a NOT SO smart car /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/scratchhead.gif
