BustedKnucklez
I have to pull the engine on an ambulance with a 6.0L that needs the heads removed. I was wondering if any of you have ever cut the "custom" wiring that the ambulance body builders put in. These dumbasses make them as they never have to come apart. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif Im talking about the loom that runs along the bottom Radiator support beam that is by the removable factory loom for the headlights. I was thinking about splicing in some connecters that can be easily detached for servicing but am afraid of messing something up. Has anyone ever done this? Will it mess anything up. Jim Warman
Google "painless wiring"... they might have something that will help... Big problem is in justifying the extra cost in something they pray wont happen again.... Another consideration... I don't throw much stuff away... especially wiring harneses.... Sometimes I can take miracles out of my "tickle trunk". FWIW... I have boxes of stuff that isn't worth /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/2cents.gif .... but, if you need it, it's worth a million bux.... OHNO60
yup busted, we had same idea few years ago on a fleet ambulance we knew for sure we would be working on. what worked for us was buying the caterpiller engine connector kit. came with crimper and selection of 1 way to 12 way weatherproof connectors, pins, etc. kinda of pricy though. if you want i can get you the part number on monday. Another way is Lawson hardware. They have individual connectors, but remember you need the connector tool. Believe its about $280.00. eastendpowerstroke
Damn, I'm not trying to spend that much of my own money. I guess I'll just have to work around it.You must have fallen on your head I wouldn't spend ONE CENT of my own money to "modify" an aftermarket up fit that wasn't designed to be serviced properly. If you SM or warranty admin wont/can't pay you the proper M-time to disconnect and reconnect the wiring then have the Ambulance company ship it to the up fitter to have it modified or removed at there expense.EVER SINCE YOU cut my wiring to fix my engine my flashy lights don't flash the same way they used to. OHNO60
i agree. Trama room 1 please. I've been working on ambulances for 18 years and 6 out of 10 repairs involve touching or moving modified wiring, etc. Warranty is warranty and the customers not going to pay for it thats for sure. I feel a fair 1 hour to r&r wiring . If you have to take more time than that i think you better let your service manager know! Easterns right! the lights or somethings guaranteed not to work your first time. Better have somebody check that the lights your going touch work or not before you touch that bastard, or else you'll be caught up in you fried my led lamp syndrome. Lost good customers to that crap!
