How the hell are you supposed to get the harness out without killing it?

 

Got one that came in with water running out tailpipe and locked up. Another tech started pulling the GP's to get it to crank over. I inherited it as he seems to have trouble working 5 days in a row. Boss said "screw him, you get the whole ticket" as he allready had the LH side off, EGR out, CAC tubes off, coolant drained,etc, thinking it had blown head gasket......Ended up pulling the inner fender to gain access on RH side. Got 3 of 4 out but the front one was just crumbling up. Used a slide hammer and screw deal to get the remains out!

 

After I cranked the water out of it I put the GP's back in and ran relative comp with WDS as we apparently don't have the proper tools to do a manual comp test. 1st attempt has cyl's 6 & 8 down 2%. Sec attempt had 3 different cyl's down 1%. Cold engine. It was still ingesting some water, likely lying in intake, as toward the end of the test it would "hit" harder on one cyl but I don't think it has hurt itself.

 

Ordered an EGR cooler "kit" as we have to get it running to see if it's OK or not. They are sending all the associated parts, gaskets, bolts etc, with the coolers now!

 

Another stupid question.....how do you get a tool into the serp belt tensioner? Hmmmmm.....maybe have someone pull on the belt while you push the lock tab on the tensioner up? That'll work I believe! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/poke.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/sleep.gif

I assume you mean either side but I always have trouble with the passenger side. There is a tool that slides on the rubber plugs, one at a time. That helps with grip but there isn't a lot of room for leverage. I destroy about half. And ahh, make sure you use a short bolt on the rear of the cooler where it is bolted to the manifold. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Uhhhhh?........the new job is....well? NEW? This is the first shop I've been in for along time that had me doing oil changes and a bunch of shit work the first three days or so. Usually they load you up and make you think your gonna get rich at first. Then once they got you hooked they ignore your "qualifications" and give you the shit! The SM really frowns on any time spent on the puter looking for SSM's, TSB's, online manuals, etc. He doesn't seem to understand that you can't always pull the diag/repair procedure out of your ass especially the 6.0L! I hate looking in the books because it's OLD info. I seem to find what I need quicker on the puter whether online or on DVD.

 

I'm annoyingly conscientious(sp?)due to my dad's insistance that "you fix it right, don't care how long it takes" additude. It's gonna take me awhile to get back in the groove but haven't screwed anything up yet far as I know! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif

 

Just wish we had a wireless network so I could get my own laptop.....

Sounds like your dealer could benefit from a new manager who better understands what it takes to get things done. Does he realize that if you had access to FMC Dealer in your service bays you will not only be better informed but quicker in the end? Maybe you can show him the light as you get more comfortable... being new and all.

SM is owners son. He does alot of things for us so I really can't bitch. We don't have to go out and get the cars as the valet brings them in and parks them in our bay's. The SM does all the prior approval's. He updates the wds daily which isn't a big deal but it's nice to know it's been booted up and is ready to go when we get there.

 

Replacing an injector harness on a 6.0L now. It was in a couple of days ago with complaint of flickering water-in-fuel light and complete loss of power when light came on. Found SSM that took me right to the problem. When moveing harness near FICM truck would die so stuck a piece of convoluted tubing on it at LR intake bolt so the customer could drive the truck till the part came in. :rolleyes:
