robp823
Had a truck brought in from another dealer today with p132b p0278 and blue smoke. The other dealer replaced cylinder 6 injector and the turbo feed pipes that come from the exhaust manifolds to the turbo. P132b was for an underboost condition which i think is caused by the turbo inlet where the clamp goes has a huge leak. But the p0278 for cylinder 6 had me scratchin my head alil so did power balance and cylinder 6 was way down -55 and cylinder 8 was at -20. so i then did relative compresion and cylinder 6 was at 8% diffrence and cylinder 8 was at 14% diffrence. Ran out of time today but tommarow when i get in im gonna do a real compresion test with gauge. I guess my question is should i be leaning more towards head or cylinders.Truck has 59,000 and puffs blue smoke like a chimney.i think cylinders 6 and 8 are part of the same bank being the left.Any help would be appreciated! signed diesel amatuer
mchan68
Cylinders #6 and #8 are next to each other on the driver side bank, at the very back. On relative compression, anything up to 5% loss I can ignore, but more than that there is definitely a base engine issue. How does power balance look? robp823
it looks good straight across when you get to 6 it just drops way off blue smoke has me worried
robp823
well finally got to work on this thing again had other higher priority trucks to do you guys know how that goes so i did the compression test and cylinder 6 was way down so i guess im going to pull the head. Some questions, can you leave the exhaust manifold on when pulling the head? whats the fastest way to do it? Im shure some of you guys have done head gaskets a million times. Also have there been any issues with rocker arms on these engines or anything like that? any help always appreciated
