TSB 08-23-1, TO BE USED IF THE COOLING SYSTEM IS CONTAMINATED (WITH OIL, FUEL OR TRANS. FLUID) AND A NEW UNIQUE DIESEL COOLING SYSTEM FLUSH PROCEDURE LOCATED IN THE ONLINE WSM, SECTION 303-03. THE FINAL STEPS IN BOTH PROCEDURES REQUIRE THE USE OF MOTORCRAFT ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM IRON CLEANER (VC-9), TO ENSURE THAT THE COOLING SYSTEM IS FREE OF RUST. ALL STEPS MUST BE COMPLETED IN ORDER TO PROPERLY CLEAN THE COOLING THE COOLING SYSTEM. TO PROPERLY DETERMINE ENGINE OIL LEVEL, THE ENGINE MUST BE AT NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE, VEHICLE IS PARKED ON A LEVEL SURFACE AND ENGINE OFF FOR 10 MINUTES TO ENSURE ALL ENGINE OIL HAS RETURNED TO OIL PAN. MONITOR OASIS FOR UPDATES. 20228 1999-2008 7.3L/6.0L/6.4L/4.5L DIESEL - CLEAN THE CHARGE AIR COOLER (CAC) SYSTEM AFTER CERTAIN TURBO OR ENGINE FAILURES - SERVICE TIP ON A 7.3L, 6.0L, 6.4L, OR 4.5L DIESEL EQUIPPED VEHICLE IF THE TURBOCHARGER IS REPLACED FOR AN INTERNAL OIL LEAK OR COMPRESSOR SHAFT FAILURE, THE CHARGE AIR COOLER (CAC) SHOULD BE CHECKED FOR OIL CONTAMINATION AND CONSEQUENTLY CLEANED IF OIL CONTAMINATION IS FOUND. THE CAC SHOULD ALSO BE INSPECTED AND CLEANED OF OIL OR METAL CONTAMINATION AFTER AN ENGINE FAILURE THAT MAY HAVE PUSHED OIL/METAL INTO THE CAC DUE TO EXCESSIVE CRANKCASE PRESSURE. A THOROUGH CLEANING OF THE CAC SYSTEM IS NECESSARY TO PREVENT FURTHER DRIVABILITY OR ENGINE CONCERNS.
