DieselD
Here is the story...early build F550. Its had all the 6.4 problems from burnt wire harness at pump, leak radiators, cooler issues from low coolant etc. several techs have had this thing and well the latest is broke rocker arms. the first time it was cylinder 4. the second time the exhaust side rocker and bent intake push tube. now less than 2k miles later its got the intake rocker on cylinder 5 broke. removed push tubes to find lifter on exhuast side shoot me in the face as I removed the push tube. Now head needs to come off to replace the lifters. To make this job worse is the overhead bed rack monstrosity they have installed on this truck. No way to remove it and every repair has been body on taking forever! looking through the WSM for head R+I you have to remove the engine to remove the head!! Seriously! make a sucky job worse! Last I checked no SLTS for body on repairs means we are going to get boned. customer installed his own bed and obviously did not read the body builders manual! This bed was on a 6.0 truck before that was a total pos. wonder what the combination is here??? interesting note tho I beleive I can change the rockers by unbolting the hp manifold and lines to injectors. very and I mean very! carefully drop the rail a bit and move out of the way. This will work for cylinder 1,3,and 5 but 7 will need to come all the way off. Might help with not having to replacing that fuel line to the pump. If you do yank the trans out real quick, pull the downpipe and right side y-pipe to access that thing. quicker than yanking the body. any tips for body on repairs? like motor R+I? DieselD
yeah Ive seen the turbo done cab on but not an engine yet. looks like about as much hassle as a 6.0econoline /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif
Tony302600
I don't think the econoline is that bad. I think this whole engine is just dumb. If cummins and duramax could make their engines pass emission's then why the hell couldn't the 7.3 or even the 6.0L. This is a disaster. Gotta pray to get a good one. How on earth could you make the cab-off procedure dumber/harder then the 6.0? It's just not good business practice. I also heard that a lot of Ford/international engineer's went to duramax. DieselD
caught a break and talked the customer into letting us modify the rack to be bolt on so now I can get the cab off like needed
DamageINC
I also heard that a lot of Ford/international engineer's went to duramax. If that's the case, then the Duramax techs will have a whole slew of new shit to complain about. Dave
