kevin phillips
I have a customer with a 2000 f-350 chassis cab that has had 4 automatic transmissions fail in a few year period. He took it upon himself to convert it over to a manual transmission. The vehicle was brought in and basically it's a mess with no wiring harness changes, just the trans and pedals. The engine is missing and running poorly, but when attempting to test a cylinder contribution test only brings up tft to high code and will not run test.Naturally,it also has every other code possible set in the pcm related to the trans.I wanted to reprogram the pcm to a manual trans calibration to clear up some of the issue's with diag but of course hotline would'nt give me a manual tear tag or as built data.Any ideas on reprogramming and what other issues this might cause the truck to have?It has got a cylinder misfire like it's got some dead cylinders but i don't believe the tests are running right because it spits out the codes related to the trans before the test has had enough time to run.It kicks out like it usually does when the engine is not up to temp and stops testing. Thanks for any input, its a mess but he's a good customer with several other trucks so i'm turning to you guys for advice
Jeff_
Disclaimer: Officially I discourage this kind of stuff for the same reasons as hotline. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grampy-jim.gif Unofficially: If you think 99 software would work, check out TSB 99-14-7, it lists lots of Tear tags and their descriptions. But I would highly recommend saving your current ids session and starting a new one if trying such a thing, this way if it doesn't work, you can just resume the old session and do a pmi to restore things to normal. Another idea is plug the variable resistance gauge tester into the tft circuits to fool the pcm into thinking TFT is normal and then you may be able to run your tests. FWIW Even though this is a good customer, I'd tell him you won't work on this modified vehicle, because doing so may involve changing things that open your dealer up to more liability than it's worth ie: emissions tampering ect (pcm calibrations are emissions devices). /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/readthis.gif Better to nip this in the butt now - before he makes a habit of creating "Junk Yard Wars" inspired shit boxes and coming to you to pick up the pieces. If you give him an inch - He will take a mile.
LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
This should be good.... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/popcorn.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/popcorn.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/popcorn.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/popcorn.gif
Keith Browning
An aftermarket tune? Perhaps one of the custom tuners can offer a solution.

mchan68
Stupid question(s). WHO was the one that did this "abortion"? WHERE were parts obtained from? WHY wasn't the PCM/main engine harness "pirated" from the donor vehicle, if that's where the tranny came from? WHY didn't he just dump the truck and buy something more reliable? For the price of four tranny failures, he could easily haven gotten himself into something else for around the same /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/icon_crazy.gif. kevin phillips
The donor truck for the pieces was a wreck. The customer,a local christmas tree farmer, did the swap himself. No he diddn't think he would have to change the harness. He has two new 6.4's and one sicko and could replace the truck if he wanted. This truck is used to pull the trailer's that haul the trees around during season and the farm work truck. I modified the tft wiring for a short period and found number 7 injector bad and replaced it. The truck ran ok with no obvious problems after repair. Thanks to all that helped, and to the one that called with ideas.
Buddy_M
You possibly could have reprogrammed this as a DAC3(XC3F-AF) or DAC4(XC3F-AG). However, I think the PCM's are a different model, and it would not program from an automatic version to a manual and the customer would be forced to buy a new PCM for a manual equipped truck. Of course dont forget there should be additional wiring for the clutch safety switch for safety purposes then as well.
DieselD
check out dptuner.com or Dennis over at ITPdiesel.com. I know dennis personally and is a good dude. They can hook you up with a custom tune to run that trans.
