Joey Kaylor
I got an 05 Freestar with the lovely and wonderful integral EGR system, and of course its got a failed DPFE sensor. 39K on the clock, and the local dealer says its not covered. how is an EGR valve not an emissions component? thoughts? Bruce Amacker
8/80 emissions coverage is long gone. I believe the current law is 2/24 with the cat and PCM being 8/80. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
Jim Warman
Joey, you may want to dig out your warranty guide (should be in the binder with you owners manual and such). Failing that, you can download a copy at motorcraft.com or myford.com. Pages 13 1nd 14 indicate that the EGR system should be covered. Perhaps you might want to wave that under somebodies nose????? G. Bedford
I see the EGR components as only being covered by the "2 years or 24,000 miles (whichever occurs first) for all other covered parts"line. At 39,000 the vehicle is out on mileage.

WOW... the emissions performance warranty is less than the BtoB warranty.... I see 8 years/80,000 miles is still good to go on "select" emissions parts.... When things get this complex, consumers tend to look at us "funny".... and the lawyers have us sounding more like lawyers than the lawyers do.... Joey Kaylor
to hell with it..the customer was pissed at them and had me do it, paid well. No wonder there are four dealers in this area that have gone under and closed up.
LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
Joey I just came across this, I would think it would be covered. I don't know this may be outdated but is the latest I could find. EMISSIONS DEFECT WARRANTY COVERAGE During the warranty coverage period, Ford Motor Company warrants that: • your vehicle or engine is designed, built, and equipped to meet - at the time it is sold - the emissions regulations of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). • your vehicle or engine is free from defects in factory-supplied materials or workmanship that could prevent it from conforming with applicable EPA regulations. • you will not be charged for diagnosis, repair, replacement, or adjustment of defective emissions-related parts listed under What is Covered? on pages 13-15. The warranty coverage period for: • Passenger cars, light duty trucks (vehicles with a GVWR of 8,500 pounds or less, or over 8,500 pounds if certified to light duty emission standards) — 8 years or 80,000 miles (whichever occurs first) for catalytic converter, powertrain control module, onboard emissions diagnostic device, natural gas vehicle (NGV) module (Bi-fuel/CNG), electronic emission control unit, and transmission control module; — 3 years or 36,000 miles (whichever occurs first) for all other covered parts. • Heavy duty vehicles (vehicles with a gross vehicle weight over 8,500 pounds) — 5 years or 100,000 miles (whichever occurs first) for covered diesel engine parts; — 5 years or 50,000 miles (whichever occurs first) for all other covered parts. See WHAT IS COVERED for list of covered parts. (A penalty or sanction can include being denied the right to use your vehicle.) • Your vehicle has not been tampered with, misused, or abused. The warranty coverage period for: • Passenger cars, light duty trucks (vehicles with a GVWR of 8,500 pounds or less, or over 8,500 pounds if certified to light duty emission standards) — 8 years or 80,000 miles (whichever occurs first) for catalytic converter, powertrain control module, onboard emissions diagnostic device, natural gas vehicle (NGV) module (Bi-fuel/CNG), electronic emission control unit, and transmission control module; — 2 years or 24,000 miles (whichever occurs first) for all other covered parts. Joey Kaylor
I tried giving them that info, but I got the same response from them as what I did when I have sent other vehicles over: It aint covered. Its not worth dealing with the bullshit when we have 43 other vehicles to get done, and the customer was beyond wanting to deal with them after issues in the past. Said Fuckit, and fixed it here for less than 250 bucks, so he was happy. I told him to call Ford on the customer service line, see how that goes. But with current situations....I feel it will fall upon deaf ears like most other complaints. How many 6.0 ambulances have to physically blow the EGR cooler out on them to get them to replace them while seeping, not blown apart with a patient in the back that is coding? OHNO60
Good thing he doesn't need a cat converter. Try telling him he has to wait 3 months.
Keith Browning
Good thing he doesn't need a cat converter. Try telling him he has to wait 3 months. The rear cat on my Freestyle broke and I waited a couple of months. The exhaust leak wasn't horrendous so we put up with it. Another customer at our dealer waited over 4 months for a front cat on a Freestyle! To be honest, if we had an arc welder I could have repaired it easily. The connecting flange simply came loose on the outlet side. What a waste.
