Injector Inlet O-rings Failing

I know I posted something on this but it was on another site. Any way, I have run across several cranks/no starts caused by high pressure oil system leaks at the injector inlet o-rings. The last two were caused by a failed snap ring which caused the support ring and the o-ring to break and spit out of the injector. Good luck finding all of the pieces. There is also an SSM on this under "no start" on OASIS.

To make matters worse, the last two I found with this failure were in a van...the same van and on two separate occasions. I have all the luck!

I feel for ya.... I did SSM 18700 on an ambulance today. Had to do it outside in full sun since I can't open both doors all the way on my hoist.

No injectors yet but I'm sure my turn is coming... can't forget that winter looks like oil cooler season for me, anyway.

Chalk up another one for a broken inlet snap ring! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rotz.gif This one was not completely blown out and I got some good pictures of it. At least this one was not in a van! Whew!

Today is my turn for a failed inlet oring, on #7. Normal crank/normal start when cold, but as ECT heats up, ICP drops in direct proportion, eventually levelling out at 510 psi @ 650 rpm. When shut off, engine will not restart due to low ICP, approx 235 psi @ 225 crank rpm, 195 F ECT. Air test and physical exam revealed the fault. And, thank God, it was on an F-350 2wd!

I don't hate the engine. In fact I have turned around and have built some respect for it. But I understand your feelings. It's very frustrating to have to bust your hump to repair failures that are relatively simple in nature that unfortunately have complicated effects. I'm still young and can't afford to let an engine get the best of me if I am going to continue supporting my family as a technician.

I remember Jim Warman commenting in a thread somewhere (can't remember where as we both frequent several forums) that he heard in a training class that the injector ring failures was a known problem and was considered a low volume thing. I am beginning to think that this is not the case.
