Customer complaint is vehicle shifts hard and is hard starting when cold . It has 146,884 on the odometer and its an ambulance.Well it sat out over night last night in 30 degree temps and when i went out to start it this morning it fired right up idled rough for a couple seconds but started right up. They keep the vehicle inside all the time too. The other complaint for the shifting i couldnt really verify except when it was cold it would take longer to shift and shift a little firm but after it warmed up it was fine. There was a couple tsb's for this 07-14-08 and 06-02-04 for pcm reprogramming but this thing is at the highest calibration already. Trans fluid is at correct level and practically new looking and there is no dtc's at all did all self test. Any help appreciated!

Explain to customer that this is a normal strategy used by the PCM to bring TFT up quicker during cold soak (lower TCC duty cycle, trans. cooler bypass, harsher shifts etc.). As for the hard start cold. Isn't any diesel hard to start when it's cold? If there are no DTCs and everything else is within specs., do you really want to dig into an E-series, worst of all and E-series ambulance?
