Cranks no start. 60 psi fuel. icp only 200 psi while cranking and ipr at 84%. cust drove it with no problems the day before, got in it 24 hours later, nothing. towed in today, Started right up with no problems. icp normal. any ideas? running fine now so kinda hard to do a air test to look for any high pressure leaks. only code is for low icp. thanks for any tips....ipr is normal, something i did notice is allthough it starts its cranks a long time before it does. You still have a dtc for low icp pressure, your problem is for sure in the high pressure oil system. It seems like all 2005 models usally have bad STC fittings. Just for curosity, what is your icp and ipr reading while idling hot and cold. if your ipr is really high to keep your icp normal that is also an indication of a leak. This thing could also have a bad or damaged low pressure oil pump. But I don't think that would be intermitent. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
slim Posted January 15, 2009 Share Posted January 15, 2009 If your ICP is 200 psi koeo you have a problem with the ICP sensor or the wiring. You need to monitor ICP voltage and test the circuit and/ or sensor. Probably a bad ICP sensor but I just had and E450 with coolant leaking from the heater hose and causing high ICP codes from coolant leaking into the connector and shorting the circuit. kridd12 Posted January 15, 2009 Share Posted January 15, 2009 Dwayne had a similar issue with an 05 6.0 running for a bit then dying. usually ran for 1/2 hour or so then would die. sometimes would restart others not. icp showed low when it would not start. no leaks. removed the pan to find carbon chunks the size of pancakes floating in the pan and getting stuck under the pickup screen blocking base oil. ended up starving a brand new hpop, scoring the lp oil pump and ripped the oil cooler screen a couple of times when the carbon would break down and go through syste. caused a hell of a lot of grief. sdv4x4 Posted January 15, 2009 Author Share Posted January 15, 2009 First thing this morning...Without starting yet icp was showing 180 psi at KOEO??? Thats with a new icp and connector. Watched base oil pressre with external gauge, cranked 20-25 seconds before oil pressure showed, then 10 seconds after that icp jumped up and it started. looks like a base oil concern. Doesnt have a aftermaret oil filter either. While idling icp is at 1100psi ad ipr is at 30.8%...seems a tad high. But on a different note, if i let it sit for longer then 20 minutes, it takes 8-10 seconds to build any base oil pressure on the gauge I got hooked up then it starts. oil pressure regulator spring looks ok. Jeff_ Posted January 16, 2009 Share Posted January 16, 2009 When you checked the regulator spring, did you remove the valve and inspect the bore? I ask because last week I had one where the valve was stuck partially open from a injector clip fragment and caused a similar concern to yours. If that looks ok and base oil is still low, I guess the next step is to remove the gerotor pump cover and inspect the pump itself... Or pull the oil pan and check the pickup tube. sdv4x4 Posted January 16, 2009 Author Share Posted January 16, 2009 Pulled out pump gears yesterday. they look fine. Timing cover ok to. I'll pull oil pan monday and check the pick up tube. Keith Browning Posted January 18, 2009 Share Posted January 18, 2009 Yep. This is one of the classic STC scenarios. The o-rings can deteriorate and not fully fail causing intermittent pressure loss. Same with the fitting locking - they can come loose and flex also causing intermittent pressure losses. When hunting for suspected ICP leaks for intermittent concerns it is always advised to inspect all seals when possible. This for some reason is even more important with the LCF 4.5L engines. Usually, with a 6.0L if a STC fitting goes because the fitting failed to lock you can be fairly confident that a new fitting will be all that is necessary. However, any o-ring deterioration discovered means you really should inspect all of the seals in the system from the STC to the injectors, the manifold block off-s and PLUGS to the stand pipes.
