Brad Clayton
Found this interesting for anyone who deals with snowplows. Quote: 1968 - 2008-2009 F-SUPER DUTY 5.4L AND 6.8L - 5R110 TRANSMISSION REVERSE ENGAGEMENT PROTECTION STRATEGY 2008-2009 F-SUPER DUTY 5.4L AND 6.8L APPLICATIONS EQUIPPED WITH A 5R110W AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ARE EQUIPPED WITH A TRANSMISSION PROTECTION STRATEGY THAT MAY CAUSE SOME CUSTOMERS TO EXPERIENCE SYMPTOMS OF; INTERMITTENT DELAYED REVERSE ENGAGEMENT, NEUTRALING OUT IN REVERSE, OR LOSS OF ENGINE POWER IN REVERSE, WHEN PERFORMING REPETITIVE ENGAGEMENTS AND DRIVE-AWAY EVENTS SUCH AS DURING SNOWPLOWING. THIS TRANSMISSION PROTECTION STRATEGY CAN PLACE THE TRANSMISSION IN A NEUTRAL STATE AFTER CERTAIN CRITERIA (VEHICLE AND ENGINE SPEED LIMITERS) ARE MET WHILE REVERSE GEAR IS SELECTED. USAGE IN 4X4 LOW RANGE CAN ALLOW THE ENGINE SPEED LIMITER (3400-3750 RPM) TO BE REACHED MORE EASILY. ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A "COMPLETE" STOP BEFORE SELECTING REVERSE CAN REDUCE ACTIVATION OF THE SPEED LIMITER STRATEGY.
Mekanik
It will probably save a lot of transmissions. I don't know if that is a good thing or not. I bet the guys plowing will hate this.
Brad Clayton
Yeah, we have had about 7 guys come in complaining about the trans in these things. I had to go out and show a couple of them hoe to plow "properly". Imagine that a guy from the South showing a 5th generation Vermonter a thing about plowing.
