6.0L Maximum Boost Spec?

6.0L Maximum Boost Specification, What's the OFFICIAL and correct specification for this engine? I am reading, hearing and being told different things and thought we need to get to the bottom of this. The Performance sheet only lists a minimum spec. I was told from the Hotline while discussing the coolant overflow TSB that anything over 24 PSI is considered over boost. I am almost positive I read a service message that 22 to 25 PSI is the maximum acceptable boost pressure. I see rumors and reports of 28 to over 30 - stock! On my "F-450 from hell" experience they said 24 max. It was rotuinely going 28-30lbs. Ran like a raped ape once you got it spooled-up though!

 

The hotline said to be sure the check the EBP tube as they are now seeing these clog just as the 7.3 did but much earlier. Apparently the tube doesn't have to be completely clogged to create problems and will still pass all On-Demand tests.

22-24max. We have seen piston melt down with 29psi. I'm not saying it wont run great with more, just that it wont last long.

 

As for the EBP issue. Yes, with extended idle times you will see carbon issues. Quicker because there is EGR on the 6.0L. You will notice it WAY before it cloggs like the 7.3L though. It is the main feedback for VGT and EGR opperation, if it gets screwy, you will notice perfromance concerns.

The normal boosting range for any 6.0L 03-04 is 22-25 psi. you may see it spike higher when loaded down or climbing hills but if it consistantly boosts over that then there is a problem. on 05-06 vehicles the boost spec increased to a max of 28 psi which is commonly seen in loaded conditions. ebp tubes can plug up or "restrict" the air flow to the sensor. also making sure the map, baro and ebp all read within .5 psi koeo is critical, and of course the turbo vanes can stick too. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rockon.gif

This is all great info and I am glad to finally know the deal but I have a brilliant suggestion for the boys at Ford. Why not put this specification in PRINT like in the PCED and add checking for over boost to the Diesel Diagnostic guide as a test? Print the specification there too!
