I see Ford is offering a F59 stripped chassis and an Econoline ambulance package for 2010-2011, both have no mention of diesel engine, only 6.8 gas. Has Ford had enough already?

we will have to wait and see,I think back when the 2008's were coming out the diesel package for econoline was up in the air for a little bit as well, I wounder what they will do as of 2010 when IH and ford split up?

I think the bigger question is going to be the vehicle changes we may see. We know the Ford Transit Connect (small European van)looks like it is a definite but will the current E-series be replaced with the larger Ford Transit van platform also from Europe? You are aware for the all but confirmed Ford built diesel engine that is coming to replace the 6.4L? I agree about the wait and see idea, it looks like we are just about to see some of the changes Ford has been working on starting with more globalization of their products. The diesel engines HAVE to play into the grand scheme. I recently read that Toyota has renewed their commitment to a clean diesel option for their Tundra heavy duty trucks. With GM and Chrysler on the precipice of disaster I think it would be wise for Ford to ramp up their diesel engine development... Posted Image but yes, we will have to wait and see.

Thats a good article. I never realized that the 6.8L V-10 was so fuel efficent. I wonder if this will make people buy heavier duty vehicle for an ambulance. I am seeing more and more ambulances that are International trucks. Or what if they just buy an f-series for an ambulance. The city I live in has all f-350 ambulances.

I have a friend thats a firefighter paramedic...they have one international and one 6.4L F-450. They had the international shut off on the them and brake more then the 450. Posted Image

Of Course the 450 broke down on them...and a certain dealership close to chicago tried ripping them off just like they ripped off every single one of our customers. So i got to talk to the cheif about why they were getting a bill when it was under warranty.... needless to say...they will not be going to that dealer anymore...like everyone else i know that went there.

I think the V-10 is a great addition. How will that engine do with all the excessive idling? You think those plugs will last?

In 2008, Ford had the 5.4 and the 6.8L heads redesigned to incorporate conventional style electrode plugs. No more dumb ass plug like Ford had from 2004 to 2007. I have always said that the V10 did not get enough recognition. It is a great engine. I just hope all the new engines don't get to be too good and have us starve out in the trade. Posted Image

So these are the plugs that blow out instead of the plugs that won't come out?

I couldn't agree more. A big part of my income is from fixing diesel engines. We all complain how unreliable they are, but if they were really, really reliable our shop wouldn't need 6 diesel guys.

I can't wait to see one of the gas guys having to work on an ambulance. Posted Imagegass-holes

Thank you Mr Cetane. In the last two days this engine has become less of a mythical creature for me. I have finally heard from the mouth of a Ford Employee that this engine exists and we should see this engine "by this time next year." And of course the pictures in the link just posted have also killed the mythical status as far as I am concerned.

I have been waiting to add a 6.7L Scorpion diesel forum to the DTS forums... is is still too early? Opinions?

Nice. I just hope it is easier to work on than the 6.4L. But no matter what, it is a great thing for Ford Motor Company that they are getting away from the Navistar engines and all the bad luck and hype that has followed them.

If you use photoshop you can lighten up the pictures and get a better look at the top end. Still not much to see. I doubt you are going to think it is easier to work on, I dont....
