Gary_P
2008 F350 6.4L PSD came rolling in here yesterday, customer said.."the turbo quit working" So I go out and see if it spools up, no it doesn't. I then check my CAC lines and cooler. nothing wrong there. so the customer leaves it with me. check some things out and determine..something is not right in Denmark. I check the MGP readings and something funny happens, key on engine off my manifold gauge pressure is atmospheric, when I start it up it should build pressure, no much but I should be getting boost... I was getting a negative pressure when this beast starts indicating I am producing Vacuum in a Diesel engine WTF over....... right then I knew this was not going to be pretty. Well, got access to the low pressure turbo and sure enough, its locked up tighter than a prom queens thighs. so I then check the oil filter.......I just started shaking my head.......completely collapsed and completely clogged with sludge. it went 36K without an oil change. so on a hunch I removed the primary and secondary fuel filters, the secondary looks a little used, but the primary is also collapsed with a "FF" suffix on the filter meaning "Factory First"............. yep, you guessed it, never been changed. vehicle odometer says 53K oil change last preformed at 17K. told him we needed maintenance records and he immediately started calling us crooks and thieves etc, etc............. stupid should hurt. I think it will
Keith Browning
So he was given an estimate for an oil change, fuel filters and a turbo? At 36K I don't feel sorry for him at all if there are no oil change records. What is the condition and level of the engine oil? Is 09B08 open on this truck? Just curious. Gary_P
no records, metal in secondary fuel filter bowl high oil level, black as the ace of spades, no open recalls or programs...........and the radiator leaks
Aaron
Sounds expensive
Jim Warman
Given what we've seen of these rngines, high oil level (to a point) isn't a surprise... An "interesting" sidebar... when I took our "HELLUVA" truck apart, I found the low pressure turbo locked... bear in mind that the last time I ran the truck, it ran good.... very good. As far as maintenance records are concerned... I can hardly wait to see some dork bring in a stack of blackstone reports in place of a stack of oil change receipts.... My "HELLUVA" truck has been overfull in the crankcase three times....
DieselD
people really need to start understanding what maintance means on a $12k engine
LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
tsk, tsk, tsk, maybe he should take it to Rex. He knows better than us....He might lose his truck but what do we care, we rip off people for a living...(SARCASM)...
