Freestyle Tires

My 2007 Freestyle AWD equipped with Continental Conti-Track Touring P215/65R17's tires has a tire issue. I noticed that the tires are almost gone! It only has 16,000 miles on it and I rotate the tires every service the same as I do with my 2001 Explorer AWD. We are looking at about 5 or 6 32nds and the wear is even but wearing on the outer edges a little more.

I am aware of the TSB on pre-mature tire wear but that only deals with the 18" Pirelli tires. I have complained about the alignment once when the vehicle was new, it drifts left against the road crown at slow speeds but handles very nicely most of the time. The alignment was checked and supposedly adjusted. At the time we did not have a functioning alignment rack so it was subleted.

I searched the Net and came up with A LOT of complaints about Continental and Pirelli tires on Freestyles.. also on myfordfreestyle.com. Yes, there is a website for them too!

Do you fellas see this issue much?

Am I out of line with thinking these tires should last longer?

My wife drives the Freestyle, mostly around town shuttling the girls around and she is not hard on it in any way in my opinion.

We use Chevy Colorado's for local delivery at work and within 10K miles the front are cupped and worn on the edges. We have a 2005 2006 2007 and a 2008. After we replace them with a comparable pair we don't have a problem, normal wear and tear usually about 60K miles after that. I think it's the nature of the beast, you may want to try Goodyears on it, that's what we run on the trucks now. The OE's may use lesser quality tires on the new vehicles. But you may change brands and see what happens.

I can't think of any vehicle that Continental brand tires last very long on. Tauruses with the Contitrac are another good example, as are Escapes. For 2009 model year Escapes, Ford has swtiched to Michelin as the OEM supplier. For this reason, any time I get a vehicle needing tires, I won't quote Continental brand tires.

Anyone who dealt with Lincoln LS's a lot knows how shitty the Conti-Trac tires are, those things would make the vehicle almost unbearably loud at 15k miles. Complete junk tires. I think it was a 17" tire found on the 'boring' painted aluminum rims.

Continental makes tires? I know they make round black tire shaped objects......

But they don't make tires....

Grit your teeth, buy Michelin LTS and never look back...

I think I prefer Michelins now as they have proven to me to be outstanding. My 2001 Explorer got a set of them during the Firestone recall and that was a little more than 70,000 miles ago. They still have about 6 32/nds" of tread on them and were wearing perfectly until recently when I discovered my lower ball joints were loosening. Even so, the wear I am seeing is minimal.

These Continental tires are garbage.
