Keith Browning
I got a PM today that threw me completely for a loop! Can ANYBODY shed some light on this or is this guy as clueless as I feel? Please read: Quote: Have you ever heard of the FSM7 program that Ford uses to "detune" the VGT to help prevent boost bleed? I was led to believe that this program was designed for 03/04 trucks, and that in the post 05 trucks, the boost tables are program extremely low? Does any of this make sense? I have an 03 truck that sputters, kicks, coughs, etc around 22 lbs of boost when towing my toy hauler. It has thrown the check engine light a few times, but of course, it does not stay on long enough to get to the dealer. I have taken my truck in twice now, and the problem cannot be replicated. On my own, I have changed out the EBP sensor and the EGR valve hoping to cure the problem. I came across the program listed above and was wondering if the info i was given was accurate, and whether it might be a possible "cure." Thanks. Cetane
The only thing I know about FSM7 is that it was supposed to be a calibration release during that fury of updates in the earlier days of the 6.0. I dont know if it was actually released to the public or not. You could try entering it into the WDS manually and see what comes up. I am guessing that it was replaced just as quickly as the release before it was. As for the boost tables, you guys drive those old ones alot more than I do, someone else could probably speak more intellegently on how the boost changed with each update. Overall I think this guy was led to believe this one calibration "FSM7" was something Ford came up with for all model year 6.0's to cure the symptoms he was experiencing but in reality it was just one of the many cal releases. Keith Browning
So there IS some substance to his question... I certainly did not recognize the "FSM7" as anything we might use. I don't get particularly wrapped up in the reflash debate nor do I bother paying attention to what each calibration addresses because Ford no longer provides this information! I feel like a complete idiot when a customer wants to know what the new calibration is supposed to correct or affect. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif
HGM
Keith, Like Cetane said, that number is not something someone usually sees.. I dont recall it like that either... The bost wasnt changed all that much over the years.. The issue is the slugfest between the EGR and VGT working over the EBP reading. For boost, any inconsistancies in EBP or EGR can cause VGT surge issues. This guy needs to make a recording, preferably with a VDR and analize the boost pids... These are usually easy fixes if you can get a pacture of it when it happens..
Cetane
I dont know when this program started or ended but apparently it was the last cal in its base sequence, meaning either something major changed and required a new cal or they just started over for a new model year. I wish I had some info on what changes were in the program but I have never been able to find something that lists the changes for older models. By the way the part number was 4U7A-BFH. David Young
I have to agree with Kieth, there have been many Calibration updates . But none will detune the turbo. The F250 should pull 25 to 29 Ibs of boost. If it can not there is a problem. EBP is main input for fueling and Turbo boost feed back, therefore pay particular attention to this sensor. if there are any leaks in the exhaut before the Turbo or charge aircooler or EGR Leals ,Boost is comprimised. ktmlew
Watch/record the EBP_G PID!!!!! Clean the sensor tube and manifold fitting if it glitchs!
