6.4L short block

Looks like I'm going to be installing a 6.4L short block due to excessive oil consumption, low compression cylinder 8. I'm trying to get list together of necessary gaskets and parts. Maybe someone been down this road before and can help out. Also anybody know anything about oil cooler gasket, is it availible?

Make sure yo've got the right tools to torque the head bolts... I used a 4:1 multiplier, a 3/4" drive 5/8" socket, and a small dab of antiseize under the bolt heads... See the "Head Bolt Torque" thread...

The headgasket kit comes with both head gaskets, fuel lines for injectors, injector o-rings and washers and turbo reseal kit. You will need a front cover gasket kit and rear cover gasket and seal, upper and lower oil pan gaskets, oil pickup gasket, water pump gasket and all the exhaust gaskets and bolts. As well as valve cover and rocker carrier gaskets. I usually order a new hpp gasket kit as well.

I think that should cover it. You will also need alot of patience and a couple of days. Its really alot of little things that need to be watched. Don't forget to remove all sensors and block heater.

I'll second that as there are a lot of assembly details and miscellaneous parts which I never seem to order all at once. Posted Image If you have never had the cab off or performed any major repairs on a 2008 6.4L I highly recommend that you take the time to read the cab off procedure and engine disassembly/assembly procedure in the manual... at least once. Don't forget that you also must replace all of the cab mount bolts and the steering shaft bolt... details, details! Posted Image

When you transfer your sensors and the block heater, don't forget the little nipple on the lower right side of the engine... I went to set my stripped short block down, forgot the nipple, and squashed it...

Don't forget to clean the loctite off the new bolts and use anti-seize instead Posted Image
