Brad Clayton
I read about this idea from fellow member Chris Worley, whom may or may not still frequent this site. This idea is pure genius in my opinion! Use a 3/4 wrench, and slip it over the fitting block and let it rest against the lowest flat on the bolt holding the gear on. This allows you to easily torque the fitting with one hand, its almost instant and it aligns the block perfectly. Since adopting this method I have tossed all the cheesy brackets out the window. Keith Browning
Except not all wrenches are bent he same or have the same sized handle. I will keep this one on my mind though and try it on the next one I do. However, I tossed the cheesy plastic bracket a long time ago and started using one of the steel ones we were installing before this new fitting was released. It only takes a minute to bolt it up and fitting is guaranteed to align properly.
joshbuys
the new black bracket they are sending works well, it's about 2 times thicker than the flimsy white one. Not sure if it's a harder plastic also? Haven't had any trouble using the new black plastic brackets.
Jim Warman
The simplicity of the idea is nothing short of amazing... on ones next STC, a few moments with an inexpensive, purpose dedicated wrench and a grinder - perhaps a trial fit of three... and voila (rather than the Americanized walla) - another problem solver... Thank the good Lord for <bending wrenches> (not to be confused with wrenches that bend).

Keith Browning
As I feared this does not work with my Craftsman wrench. The block was off alignment considerably. No big deal. It only takes about 60 seconds to install the bracket anyway. This was the first fitting I have installed since the new black bracket was released but I have been using a used metal bracket that came off of a truck a while back and it does not flex! Aaron
I've been having trouble getting a steel bracket - anyone got a spare they want to get rid of?
Brad Clayton
I've got the basic length Snap-on 3/4 wrench and it fits perfectly. I can't speak for other wrenches, but the Craftsman obviously dosen't work and I'm sure others probably don't work either. I looked high and low for an old metal bracket. After no luck in finding one and then being fortunate enough to have the wrench that fits, I am content in my job.
G. Bedford
I have a short level about 5" long that I use. I put the HPOP in the vice while holding the level against the lower mounting pads that go against the block when bolted up. I simply match the fitting angle to match the HPOP base angle.
