fjubain
Just a heads up,maybe you experience guys out there already know this but i tought I would share this.Today was my fisrt oil cooler replacement on a 6.4l and the oil cooler actually comes out without removing the intake.I thought i should give it a try and it worked, it only comes out like this, first lift the front of the cooler upward tight up under the intake, then tilt the rear of the cooler out of the engine block and slide it out. It,s the only way it comes out, if you tilt the rear right away and attemtp to slide out , it won't go.it come out freely without any excess force. Today we practice to get it in and out a few time .Note removed the power strg pump to access the frt cooler bolts.I hope this helps .By the way I replaced the cooler for and oil leak. Jeff_E
Nice to know!!! did you do this cab on or off?
GregKneupper
Been doing that way since the engine came out. The only different thing that I do is remove the cover on it first. Saves a ton of time.
Bruce Amacker
I'm curious- what led you to replacing it? Does the temp separation rule still apply? (15*F or 25*F, whichever you prefer.....)
fjubain
I changed the cooler for an oil leak, the cavity below the cooler was full of oil and no signs of gasket failure, so I replaced the entire cooler assy, per hotline they have seen quit a few. Steve Mutter
Nice to know!!! did you do this cab on or off?I have my first one that needs a egr cooler and oil cooler. Can this be done with the body on or is it best to remove the body?
Matt Saunoras
egr cooler and oil cooler failures should be independent of each other on a 6.4. it's not like the 6.0 where one causes the other thanks for the heads up, I always thought the intake needed to be removed

I will have to double check with them in the am

mchan68
Ya they fucked up. No oil coolerThanks for the info. If Cold Line can't distinguish between a 6.0L and 6.4L and it's associated difference in operating characteristics, WTF else are they good to assist us with? And the million dollar question becomes, what would've happened had you gone ahead and replaced the oil cooler and the truck wasn't fixed? Who would be eating that one? lmorris
Was told the same thing. I got the "When replacing the EGR cooler don't forget to service the oil cooler as well and flush the cooling system properly" spiel. Upon questioning them they admitted to the mistake.
