Tony302600
Well, im slowly getting a go-ahead from my dad to get a company vehicle to drive around besides my work explorer. I'm not to impressed with the new 09 F-150 so naturally i want to go with a 250-350 (if i can really pull some strings 450). I will mainly use it to chug around/daily driver, tow enclosed trailer no longer then 30ft and/or 30ft boat. I'm having a real tough time deciding between a 6.4 or V10. I don't know if i trust the 6.4 yet enough to be confident when i leave for long trips (my parents cottage) that i wont have to worry about it breaking on me. Being outta the business for 8months what do you guys think? Should i go with a 6.4 or should i just get the V10. Dwayne I know you are partial to the V10.....what do you guys think? Brad Clayton
That's a tough call. I do know that if you decide to go diesel, I would shell out the bucks for the 7 year 200,000 mile warranty from the get go. I think I wouldn't mind having the 6.4 as long as I could find a way to monitor what was being pumped into the friggin fuel tank. I mean it's like playing Russian Roulette everytime you fill one of these things up. I personally have never been a fan of the modular motors. We melt the manifolds clean off these things when you put some weight on them, down South.

Jim Warman
If there is anything that Dwayne and I agree on - it is the 6.8.... Maybe all you need to do is compare the price of an oil change.... I know a few guys that are having very good luck with their 6.4s - but thelr maintenance costs are through the roof compared to a gaspot... Brad Clayton
Very good point, which does get overlooked in the sales department when specing out a new truck!
Tony302600
I can count on one hand how many "major" repairs ive seen/done in the dealership on V10's. I was there 5years. Usually it was because of lack of maintainence. The companies that use only V10's instead the 6.0L rave about how much they love them, and we BARELY saw them in the shop. I think my minds made up. V10 it is. (with the longest extended warranty). Maybe I will lease it until the 6.7L comes out?
BrunoWilimek
I would definitely go with the 6.8. We had a poll on Inford a while back and the gas engine won out bigtime. I don't like to recommend the 6.4 to anyone(although I would love to be able to do so, being a loyal Ford supporter)due to the expense and complexity of the darn thing. Also, the costly routine maintenance as well as the history of repairs way above what should be required for a modern engine. As for the 6.7, I would wait at least a couple of years for other people to be the guinea pigs and find all the weak points on it before committing. Cetane
Diesel or not, I would wait until the end of September/early October before deciding what to buy.

LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
Well lets see....The 6.0 a bridge engine until they came out with the 6.4....Now the 6.4 is going away due to a pissing match between Ford and IH. The Scorpion.....How long until they figure out they need another engine.????? The 6.8 on the other hand proven and still in the lineup, not a big choice for me. 6.8 hands down. Fredsvt
Is the SuperDuty going to get the 6.2 gas V8 that the Raptor is going to have in it? Looks like it has more power and torque than the V10.
slim
You should also think about availability and price of parts since the 6.4L was only available for 2 model years. I have a feeling these engines and their parts will be mostly obsolete in 5 years.
cbriggs
Ya , that'll be great hey. Have to build a set of temporary cab bolts with wing nuts, set cab back down, push it out, wait for parts.
DwayneGorniak
As I've said before. The 6.8L has been tried, tested and true for many years now. But is no where near recognized enough. $8,000.00 less than a 6.4l, less money on maintenance, repairs, etc. You can buy allot of fuel for that kind of money and feel very comfortable knowing that you could do a cross country trip without having to tow alternate transport or a roadside hotel (travel trailer because you will need it). Cetane
A fleet manager on one of the diesel sites is claiming the order bank has opened up on the 2011's. Might be worth a trip up to the sales office to see what is available.
