Jim Warman
OK... suffered through another bout of the turbocharger bolt blues, today... Left front bolt wouldn't budge and I finally got the corners rounded off just the way we all "like 'em"... Managed to get in there with a right angle die grinder and cut the head off the bolt... Once the turbo was off, the bolt wound out with my fingers. Whenever I have a turbo off, I always think that there may be a chance that I might be the next guy to remove it and I always add anti-sieze (Kopr Kote is my fave) to the threads when reinstalling the turbo.... Anyone else do this??? PS... c'mon guys. let's put some life in this place.... Ain't nobody at the big blue oval looking over your shoulder. Big - little.... don't matter. Like the tip on spray Marmon clamps with lube to pop them free (stuff I do without even thinking), there's nothing that isn't worth mentioning since none of us will ever see everything there is to see.... Keith Browning
Jim, you're freakin scarin me! We think too much alike. I do the same with the anti seize. But this leads me to ask: Does Navistar have a patent on the design of the nuts and bolts they use? They are unforgiving when it comes to a worn socket. Mind you, I am easily amused as I am still giddy about that penetrating oil on the marmon clamp trick. I am going to have to come up with an award for ideas like that! Jim Warman
Keith, for award winning ideas, you only need to look at those things you do.... When the penetrating oil on the clamps was brought up, it hit home that not everyone knew of this little trick..... how many other little tricks are there out there that some of us take for granted? Other little tricks that someone else hasn't thought or heard of? FWIW, two of the other guys in the shop came to me last year asking why I never swore when removing the clamps from the turbo and were amazed that I was doing this right beside them... There is no tip too big or too small. If for no other reason, we should post them for those guys that have recently been cursed with a diesel bubble.... (Ooops, I meant "blessed" with a diesel bubble).
LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
If we really think about this. They make these parts to brake/strip etc. on purpose. Ford does this to sell more parts. How many of you have used the penatrating oil on the clamps only to have the weld on the v-channel pop. LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
Hey Guy's has anybody had to replace the turbo on a new LCF with the 6.0 yet? My catalog is pretty vague as to what the turbo kit comes with. 6E7Z6K682AA Were on the Pro Quest system. Keith Browning
If you order a turbo for a 6.0L it won't fit in the LCF! The LCF only comes with the 4.5L V-6 Power Stroke. Big difference in the turbos too. To answer your question though, I haven't done a turbo on a LCF yet. From what I understand you get the entire assembly as neither of the two turbos or the valve is separately serviceable.
