I was at our shop today and my dad got a call asking where our location was. My dad told them our address and 5minutes later a van pulls up and a person comes out asking if we are "A & R Diagnostic." I said ya, he opens up his back door and sitting in the back of his van is a 72'' wide griddle (the flat top commercial grills with a flat stainless top covering the entire grill). It has to be at least 1000lbs. I looked at the guy and said, "we don't be used equipment."

Guy: "I know, i want you to fix it."

Me : "Why did you bring it to us? Why didn't you have a service call?"

Guy: "I don't want to pay the $55 travel charge, so I brought it to you to save money."

I couldn't believe the lengths this guy went through to get his equipment repair done. My dad told him to take the griddle back to his restaurant and hook it back up and we will wave the $55 travel charge to help him out.

What get's me is that we have the lowest service call/hourly charge in chicago/suburbs.

How have things been with you guys? What's the weirdest thing you guys have been asked to do, to save a customer money.

"Just leave the wheels off and it up on the hoist, he's going to come and put the swaybar endlinks on himself."
