DUAL TO SINGLE MASS

Thanx for the tip on the bolts Gerry. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif

Come to think of it I have only seen two manual transmissions teamed up with the 6.0. It's a different experience for sure. I can easily see an inexperienced driver or some wise guy trying to pull a tree stump out destroy a cluch... taking the flywheel with it. I recall the 7.3L flywheels were not supposed to be machined so I assume the 6.0L DMFW are the same.

we replaced a dual mass with the single because of broken springs. The problem now is that the customer is complaining of a vibration at 1800-2200 rpm. We have isolated the exhaust/ turbo, replaced the engine mounts ( which did help), but the vibration still exists. I have just been handed this job after approx. 4 months of the general tech with zero training and all the knowledge, not being able to solve anything. The customer has complained to Ford, and now it is my baby. I am going to restart from square 1 with diagnosis, but was wondering if anyone has run into this at all??

Thanks in advance

Did the vibration begin when the new flywheel was installed?

yes it did. it is also possible that the vibration was there before, and that the dual mass was able to absorb it, and now with the single flywheel it is now noticeable. I am just waiting for the truck to come back in to tackle it myself. It is an 03 F550 2wd with a service body on the back.
