Gerry L. Lincecum
Has anyone tried to do a dual to single mass flywheel conversion on 03-early 04 6.0 L 6 sp.? If not make sure you order the 10 new flywheel bolts for a late 04. The ssm doesn't tell you this. I found out the hard way.
Bruce Amacker
I assume it was replaced due to failure? What was the symptom? I see very few 6.0 DMF's around here. They're either heavier chassis or automatics.
Keith Browning
Thanx for the tip on the bolts Gerry. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif Come to think of it I have only seen two manual transmissions teamed up with the 6.0. It's a different experience for sure. I can easily see an inexperienced driver or some wise guy trying to pull a tree stump out destroy a cluch... taking the flywheel with it. I recall the 7.3L flywheels were not supposed to be machined so I assume the 6.0L DMFW are the same.
Gerry L. Lincecum
dampner springs broken. dual mass obsolete now. see parts dept.personnel
Jeff Clyde
we replaced a dual mass with the single because of broken springs. The problem now is that the customer is complaining of a vibration at 1800-2200 rpm. We have isolated the exhaust/ turbo, replaced the engine mounts ( which did help), but the vibration still exists. I have just been handed this job after approx. 4 months of the general tech with zero training and all the knowledge, not being able to solve anything. The customer has complained to Ford, and now it is my baby. I am going to restart from square 1 with diagnosis, but was wondering if anyone has run into this at all?? Thanks in advance

Jeff Clyde
yes it did. it is also possible that the vibration was there before, and that the dual mass was able to absorb it, and now with the single flywheel it is now noticeable. I am just waiting for the truck to come back in to tackle it myself. It is an 03 F550 2wd with a service body on the back.
