GregKneupper
I had one a long time ago that ended being a pcm. Really kicked my ass. The one I had all you had to do was tap on the pcm lightly with a hammer and the engine would shudder when you tapped it.

GregH
Does it buck and jerk at a certain RPM? Will it do it in neutral in the stall? How about unplugging the fan and the alternator? I had one that kicked me too - had to scope the lines between the FICM and the PCM and finally found the PCM making the square wave CMPO too long at times. The FICM didn't know what to do with that signal so FICMSYNC turned to No and the engine started to jump around in the engine compartment... There is a thread on here about it.... robp823
Ok well after resistance checking and load testing all the powers and grounds to the FICM and also the communication circuit and finding nothing wrong.I had an excursion in the bay next to me so for the hell of it i swapped FICM's and problem solved. joshbuys
We have a known good test FICM here also....it's brand new, so if it fixes the problem, it get's left in the truck and gets replaced by the new one from parts....only have to program it once that way! Bruce Amacker
I recommend in all of my classes that the techs keep a known good IDM and FICM on the shelf for test purposes. If you can't find one easily, www.car-part.com has used ones for $100 or less. Good Luck!
robp823
cool thanks it sounds like a good plan to have spare ones on hand.
Aaron
I recommend in all of my classes that the techs keep a known good IDM and FICM on the shelf for test purposes. LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
Would you believe my parts department quoted a customer $780 for a USED 7.3 IDM? Is that the same one you called me on?
Aaron
Yeah. Customer found his own from some place in the states - that was that "DG systems" one or whatever the fuck it was I called you about. Claims he paid $251USD for it. All I know is it's on the truck. My warranty's over.
LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
He gets what he pays for, just like the customers that go to the quicky oil change places that pay the lube "TECHS" cheap. You pay $8.00 hr to these guys and you get $8.00 worth of experience. Watch he'll be back and pissed at you when it takes a shit. Please keep us posted when he does.... Aaron
I've still got the "Installation guidelines" sheet from his bargain IDM on my toolbox, for when he needs to return it.
