joshbuys
Alright, I mentioned that I had a second one to do now at the end of the other post, what I hadn't noticed 'til this morning was this truck has a spare tire rack - welded to the flatbed - that overhangs the cab. So this ones gonna be a cab ON deal. I was wondering what you guys thought of not pulling the turbos, but attempting to do it from the back after pulling the transmission? I can't decide if it's worth trying, cause I don't care to screw myself!
kridd12
in the past we have just cut the racks off and welded them back on if the rack isn't all pretty looking to start with. we've always asked the customer first and never had an issue. I can't decide if it's worth trying, cause I don't care to screw myself! First off, I say your Nuckin Futs to try to do it by pulling the tranny. Not trying to be mean or offend you, but that idea is still Nuckin Futs! I hope you have lotsa bandaids. That job would be alot like finger fucking a Porcupine. I think your fingers will be in places that they were just never meant to be in. Has anyone else done it this way? That cover is a mother fucker to rotate out of there and then back in without the cab off little lone with the cab on. Cut the friggin carrier off or tell the customers to have it removed or they can fuck off. May the force be with you! And keep us posted. cbriggs
Quote: That job would be alot like finger fucking a Porcupine Now thats funny right there. And yes, cut off the tire rack. Last one i did i welded it back onto a piece of 3x3 angle iron, then bolted the whole deal back onto the headache rack, so next time it will be eaier. But I turned the bracket around facing backwards. there is absolutely no reason allot of these brackets can't face backwards unless they have a picker that interferes with them. The one I did was a picker truck and still had lotsa room.

joshbuys
All done, did it all from the back and top after pulling transmission. Didn't have to pull turbos, took 7 hours today and a 20 mile test drive.....GOODBYE!!!! Yes we have a torch too, but i'm no welder, nor do I profess to be able to weld, I could cut it off no problem, but I'd have to convince someone else to weld it back on for me. joshbuys
I work with my brother-in-law, and he used to work as an ornamental welder for his dad, so he generally does all my welding, unless he's busy, then I have my apprentice do it since he knows how to weld. Mikill
It's not that bad to do it with the transmission out. Did one on an F-550 bus that the cab could not be removed. I have one now that I just replaced the HPP because it was only building 80 psi. Ended up replacing gasket as well because the red and orange wires that are still exposed were chafed. Now the FRP builds to over 6000 psi and still won't start. I have the bleed tool hooked up and fuel is no longer aerated but vehicle still won't start. Any ideas from you guys? I have fuel pw and vpwr is good. All other pids seem good to go and no codes on koeo or injector selftests. By all accounts the truck should fire off. joshbuys
Not sure if it would be possible to do the pump that way, but the gasket isn't bad.

Aaron
I had a salesman convinced at the dealer I used to work at a cab lift was just for an oil change. I got a truck in for an injector rotation as we speak.
DwayneGorniak
Ha ha! I did the same thing when I was at Fourlane. I had a turbo pump oil into the exhaust. After the turbo replacement was done, I had crawled underneath and drilled a hole into the muffler and let it drain into an oil pan. I had a couple of salesmen going that I was doin an oil change on the muffler. Ahh, good times.
