Hey guys and gals. This is my 1st post although ive been cruising here for awhile. I just wanted to give a heads up on 05-06 engines having a no start w/ low or no ICP. After having 3 last week and 3 more sitting on the lot waitin on parts and talkin to an engineer, We are starting to see branch tube failures at the coupler to the HPP. The couplers are blowing out and bending/ breaking the branch tubes. Theres is a fix for this but unfortunately you still have to replace the branch tube assembly. Ill post the kit part number later on today. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif

I've done a few of these.

TSB 06-4-6

5C3Z-9C854-A H/P Discharge Tube

W301727 H/P Pump Outlet Fitting

The coupler "vibrates" with the high pressure oil pump pulsations. This causes the o-ring to get chewed up and leak.

Not a very well engineered connection.

Tech in the next bay had an interesting one... no starting concerns but there was a strange noise, almost a buzz off idle... Loudest around the HPOP... no starting concerns.

He replaced the branch tube fitting and all was well....

Noise? I had some HPOP's make a rattling sound a while back but I could swear I read somewhere that these disconnect fittings/feed tubes were rattling against the rear engine cover.

TOOBADQ sent in some pics of one that broke the rear engine cover. I'll post them when the server ordeal is complete.

I don't recall the tech mentioning any witness marks on anything... I do recall him and the shop foreman dwelling on this noise... even me with my tinitis could hear it... Funny thing is, in the shop, at least, it appeared rpm specific... (remember, I'm trying to do my own stuff and eavesdrop at the same time... some stuff is hard to miss since my tool box is an occasional "tool crib" for some of the more esoteric tools).

Check the "water cooler for an announcement... oh, and check ALL of your e-mail addresses, I sent you an interesting tidbit a couple of days ago...

THe kit i mentioned comes w/ a bracket and bolts. The bracket bolt to the front 2 bolts of the HPP and the 2 bolts of the disharge tube to help keep things in place. Ive put the discharge tube and fittings on only to have the same thing happen and bend the discharge tube backwards and sheering off the bolts to the coupler. From then on i said im putting a discharge tube and the updated kit on no matter what.

Here's a little more info for you fellas:

I called the Tech Hot Line and the engineer (Al) knew what I was talking about and said that the bracket was being evaluated and was not yet approved for use by Ford... he then asked me to hold.

He comes back and stated that the kit HAS been approved and the kit will be released sometime this month (May 2006) possibly early. The part number is 4C3Z-9B246-A which should contain the connector, fitting, seal, bolts, bracket and an instruction sheet.

Good heads up! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif

Huh? is right! I was under the impression that these would be available within a month or more likely two - June. December is a long way off and I am seeing more of these things fail than I care to. Considering the fact that this kit was already conceived and some available, how long should it take to ramp up a production run and post a TSB? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif

This buzzing noise, is it pretty noticable on decel at freeway speeds when the fuel is shut off? I test drove one of our fleet account trucks (2005 F450) on the freeway and heard a buzzing noise, not the normal 'air pump' noise on decel. Don't have a bidirectional Ford scanner so I cannot test as directed in the TSB but I would like to inform them of a pending problem if one does exist. There are no starting problems with this truck, 1-2 seconds of cranking hot or cold. Thanks for the help.
