joshbuys
'FACTORY'? My understanding is factory doesn't install these, they send the kit in a box in the back of the car and have tech's install them......and they are a major pain in the arse! Model to model they're not the same, and they are very tempermental!!!! Just did one on thursday on a 2010 Sport Trac.
Jim Warman
Kenny is the guy in the know about these installs... I'm sure he'll correct me if I'm wrong... The wiring is installed by a third party after the car is built... It isn't done real well (as you can see) and rates right up there with most stereo shop installs

Shouldn't say FACTORY, but they come off the truck like that - from what I understand they ARE installed by a 3rd party, but still. My boss saw that and said he'd FIRE someone for installing one like that.
Jim Warman
Back in the day.... we would install the Code Alarm units - the guys that did them lots (Kenny was one) got them down to IIRC about 4 hours or so... tough to compete when the hack down the street is pounding them out in a hour so we just stopped... I spent a long time installing mine (I have done several brands in several makes... not many "repeat performances")... and I'm still not real pleased with the look of the install... Aaron
The thing that bothers me the most is on the alarm/rmst packages, they want to you tie the module to a wiring harness so it can move around and activate the shock sensor. That's all well and good, but should the customer ever see that, it looks like a big pile of fuck hanging there under the dash. Hell, the one that was installed in my truck when I bought it, I can rest my boot against it while I'm driving, in the place it's mounted. Aaron
And the original reason that car was in there, was the keypad on the door didn't work. Because the wiring was hacked to pieces in the kickplate.
Adam_Dodson
i hate to say this but....why doesnt ford do the remote starts like GM? FROM THE FACTORY! Just enable it with a scantool and sell the customer a remote...
Aaron
I've been sayin that for awhile now. You can't tell me that we don't have the technology in already present modules to do this. A super duty has a module that simulates the key being turned off....so....yeah. But, just like enabling RKE on a 2008 Super Duty, it can't be done, right? Right guys? I have, however noticed that the best factory installs seem to be in Fusions. I also like on F-trucks when they come with a RMST - they don't use the pass through wires for the hood switch, and I have seen a couple hood switches not even installed on factory ones. Too bad I value my fingers so much, or I could rock a pretty good financial gain outta that.
kridd12
My first "FACTORY" remote start I dealt with the module was taped to the under dash harness. The hood switch was taped to the module and the excess of wires was incredidble. all the splices were made correctly with scotch locks and tape, no solder. I must say quality is definately #1. And try getting paid by ford to repair that mess.
