Brad Clayton
My neighbor bought a newish Focus the other day. We are good friends with these guys. I noticed the car was bought at a competeing dealer down the road from mine. I didn't ask why, but the wife couldn't hold it in and insisted on sharing the story with me. They traveled to my dealer, which is a good clip from our house, only to be seriously let down. They were thinking the place was an outstanding enterprise, do to my feedback and involvment with fixing their vehicles. If they needed work we would just switch cars and I would drive theirs down to work on it and what not. So, they walk into the sales department and are greeted in a pleasant and "professional" manner. So good so far. Now keep in mind they already know what they want they just gotta find someone with the car and the numbers have to jive. "Hello" says the salesman, "How can I help you folks today". The couple replies, "We are looking to get a new car today, and we were told this is the place to come". "Well you certainly came to the right place, what are you in the market for?" "We're gonna be doing alot of driving and we have decided to get a Ford Focus" The salesman without hesitation fires back "Ford does not make a Focus". The couple looks with a little confusion, "excuse me sir?" Again the salesman replies "They have never made a Focus, at least not in the states, you can get one in Europe though." They reply "we are talking about a Ford Focus right?. Look there goes one down the street" The three watch as a 2000ish model forest green Focus rotted up to the windows motors down the street. "That's not a Focus" replies the "salesman" Well, needless to say my neighbors promptly left and have no intentions of ever returning. WTF IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE AND THE PLACES THAT KEEP THEM ON? Jim Warman
Without knowing a bit more about the salesman, it's a crap shoot... but let's try... You don't say if the guy is a recent hire or not... could it be that he's an entry level wiener and he's lost his chaperone for a while? Or is he a master of salesmanship and has his department snookered as to what he can and can't do? We're sure your neighbout didn't accidentally say Fiesta by mistake - hey, crap happens... Could it be that the salesman "heard" Fiesta... and aren't they "almost" available in NA now? Just because the guy has a cheap suit and dwells in a showroom doesn't mean he knows anything... Nor does it mean he will learn anything. Product knowledge is acquired... the learner has to seek out this knowledge - osmosis doesn't work... Sadly, it isn't just this business... from the toaster you are considering at Walmart to the fast food gut bomb you want for lunch... from the car in your driveway to the TV you watch.. finding definitive answers to questions can be a chore. The human animal is hell bent for election to do as little as possible while hoping for huge gains... Common sense ain't.... FWIW, I hope your neighbours found a salesman that will do his best for them... All we can do is deliver our best and hope for someone elses best in return.. Keith Browning
Brad I do hope that you say SOMETHING to SOMEONE at your dealership about this incident. Your personal relationship with your neighbors aside, this is just bad for business and in this economic climate I should think that ANY dealer cannot afford to lose sales, not one. Holy shit! What is this sales person smoking?
gasgasman
I doubt the dealership would care. My brother works construction and has generated at least 20 Super Duty sales with referals to the dealer I work at(all to the same sales person). He tried to buy an Escape and was trading his SHO in using the Cash for Clunkers deal. The dealership totally blew him off. So he went a bought a Honda Accord.
