Here it is November 15th and I havent mowed my lawn in 6 weeks! Did they drag New Jersey north?

It will need another cut and leaf pick up though. I usually wait until late Novenber or even early December when the Christmas lighting goes up.

That's the deal... usually, it snows on Hallowe'en... well, it usually snows before hallowe'en - but that one melts away... the snow we get on all hallows eve is the one that stays...

Now... if it would only get cold enough to drive some hard frost into the ground before the snow comes... this would make the oil patch good and busy...

Yep just "mowed the lawn" and edged yesterday. I don't mind other than the F$#%kin lazy neighbors that won't pick up their leaves. My yard of course is still lush and very green. I'm really anal about it. And don't even mention weeds around me. Won't stand for for them.

I'll have to mow my backyard once more. I thought it would have been done when we almost had snow a month ago. Weird weather. Most of the beaches are gone after last week.

But mowing will wait until the "Leaf Wars" are over with my next door neighbor.

The lazy bastard blows his leaves onto the berm between the yards, instead of down the back by the stream, and they fall into my yard so I have to clean them up.

Well, he gets his... I bought a 10 horse blower vac, and I suck'em up and shoot the mf'ers all the way up to his damn front door.

Maybe he'll get the idea.

I'm gonna rake 'em into a big ass pile, dump the stale lawnmower gasoline on it, and WOOSH.

I've been thinking of putting a little gasoline injector into the blower's output duct with an igniter and point it at his house while blowing. Posted Image

That should take care of his leaves....

  • 3 weeks later...

We got some last night... leaves us in a tender position, though...

It never really got cold enough for the frost to set into the ground real good. And now, the snow is going to insulate the ground and keep it from getting good and hard.

If the economy was bull.... them guys would be out in the field, complaining, breaking parts, getting rich and spending money and we'd have more brake and suspension work than you could shake a tie rod end at.

But I know that the service rigs are dropping their rates... and everyone is being real careful about costs. We'll survive and perservere...

but I don't see a gangbuster winter heading our way...

And the weather is friggin' wierd...

I've heard conflicting reports along that vein, Jim. Our local DDC/Allison sales rep says some well service outfits are cannibalizing rigs instead of buying new or replacement parts, and his own shop (where I used to work) has been slow and expects to stay that way. But then the Fort Garry rep comes along and says his shop is booked up two weeks in advance and the phone is ringing off the hook...

For what it's worth, it wasn't that long ago that $75/barrel oil was causing stress as there weren't enough grunts to make all the wheels go 'round. Now apparently $75/barrel oil is not enough to make any profit, so everything is shut down. And the oil companies claim ignorance and innocence to racketeering and price-fixing......

Funny this got brought back around today. Got around to that today, finally.

I guess some of the leaves were somewhat...damp. you can't see my whole neighborhood, and to add insult to injury, I didn't have any gasoline, (even old stale lawnmower gas) so I've had a smoking, smoldering pile of shit out in my yard all afternoon.

Started snowing today after 10 am. Put new sneakers on my wifes rig today, just in time. Got the Exploder up to 50 mph on the interstate on the way home. You guessed it, I'm the "asshole with the SUV who thinks he is invincible when there is snow on the ground"!

But what about the ICE under the snow? Posted Image

Well we ended up with 2 or 3 inches yesterday which is not much but it does count as the first snowfall of the year in my eyes. It completely covered the grass and caused motor vehicle accidents so it's official.

Today, since none of the municipalities appear to have been prepared there is about 2 inches of ice on all of the roads. I haven't seen hide nor hair of a plow truck or salt spreader. The lawn is probably crunchy too!

I have to go to Lowes to return a toilet seat that is the wrong color so I guess it's a good time to pick up some fresh ice melter and maybe a new shovel. I'll bet I will not be the only one! Still haven't ordered a new drive belt for my snow thrower. Think I should get that done this week? Posted Image

After shoveling all the white shit that landed during Friday's shitstorm, there is now approximately four feet of snow piled in my front yard. The wind came from the north and east, and drifted over the wife's Maxima and the hood of my two-wheel drive F-150 4x4. That's right, Friday night I got stuck in a drift in front of our shop because the frickin front axle didn't wanna engage, and I couldn't climb the pissy incline into the shop to fix it, so I eventually slid home and launched the useless pig onto the driveway sideways, barely missing the aforementioned Maxima and the garbage bins.

I really should have bought a snowblower in the spring......
