Mbl35
04 E350 van. Came in with a blown egr cooler, i replaced the oil cooler also-original. I opened the turbo to have a look to find the hole on the unison ring very worn. The vgt cam lever was very coked. This was my first bad ring. Anyone else have to change these? Mekanik
I have replaced PLENTY. Most of them are worn out where the cam attaches to the unison ring, others are cracked. I saw one about a month ago that had five cracks in it.
Keith Browning
I thought I had posted this image here before but I think it was a front page article... here is a close-up of a severely worn unison ring guide pin slot. Believe it or not a technician "missed the fact that this was worn, cleaned it and reinstalled it. The engine still surged badly. it does not take this much wear to cause a turbo to surge therefore you should be critical of ANY wear you see on a unison ring. It will only get worse so replace it if there is any sign of wear. Cracks are also common especially on unison rings that are sticking or outright seized on the CRH. Mbl35
Mine is worn exactly just like that. Every time i remove a turbo i make it a point to split it open and this was my first worn one, maybe its cuase i mostly work on e series.
