Keith Browning
I recall seeing quite a few valves seized in the heads of 7.3's but not the 6.0. As I return to work after my yearly pre-summer cold, I remember what I left behind. A 2006 with a shattered push rod which is now jammed in the head. After I raise the body and lift the head I'll know better what happened. I used our boreoscope but the light is not very bright. I could swear the lifter had come apart. Just wondering if any of you have seen or heard of valve train problems? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif
Jim Warman
The odd broken rocker arm.... a couple with siezed exhaust valves.... nowhere near what we used to see with the 7.3.
International Tech
I havent seen any in awhile on the 6.0. Mainly when they first came out. Not many though. This is odd though. Because we just were told that any valve train failures have to be phoned in. Wonder if they are starting to see some issues?
Keith Browning
Lifted the cab today and had enough room to work this out from under the head. I'll post the diagnosis when I get to it and I expect to find more beat-up parts.
Keith Browning
Well I got the head off and found a LOT of carbon on the piston and the valves. I also found one of the exhaust valve stems dry and rusty. I'll chalk the carbon caking up to a light misfire caused by the valve hanging but I am still replacing the injector along with the cylinder head. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif I recall this being a problem with 7.3's. HotLine engineer reminded me that if these sit too long when new this happens due to condensation getting at any exhaust valve that happens to be open
fleetingmoment
Some one at the tech hot line said they see about 7 stuck valves a month because of brand new trucks sitting for months on dealer lots(with out starting the motors), valve stems rusting up. A week ago I did one and they said if the piston just had smiley faces, just do the head and gasket(and push rod) . No marks on the head but it looked like rough acne on the piston & head of that cylinder with the valve still open.
