mchan68
Just curious. Is there any possible way of obtaining the VIN of the originating vehicle, with just the engine serial number? I know that it's possible to obtain the engine serial number with the VIN through HvBOM (how many times we have to go through this when we submit prior approval claims right?), but what about the other way around? Can someone assist me with this? Here's the reason. 2004 E-Series in for a used engine replacement. The provider of the donor engine refuses to divulge the VIN info from which the engine came from. Thanks in advance.
LARRY BRUDZYNSKI
Mike, In Michigan if we buy a used engine the salvage yard or supplier must include the vin on the invoice. The amount of stolen parts from stripped cars was getting out of control about 10-12 years ago and this was put into place. I don't know what anyone else's requirements are, but I imagine they must be similar. I bet if you call Reviva with the engine serial number they can get you close to what it originally was in. Bruce Amacker
IH can do this, but IDK about FMC.
Cetane
Have you tried the hotline? I could do it, but I would rather not get involved with something that could turn into a legal matter.
Aaron
I'd tell them if they aren't going to supply the VIN, you're buying the engine elsewhere.
Aaron
The next hurdle would be READING the number off the back of the block... if it ain't too corroded.
GregH
... obtain the engine serial number with the VIN through HvBOM (how many times we have to go through this when we submit prior approval claims right?) ... For the prior approval claims I take the vehicle build date and subtract five days - that's the date I use for engine build date. For engine serial number I type in "unknown" and haven't had one turned down yet...
Aaron
I have been using the truck build date, and the tag number off the valvecover as the serial number.
