Cracked 6.0L Block

468 miles and in the shop for an oil leak. A brand spankin new 2006 F350. After some disassembly I discovered two cracks in the casting of the block on the right side of the oil cooler reservoir to the head. This is the second such defect I have come across with the first being about two years ago. Before I submitted my prior approval forms I called the Hot Line. The scary thing is that the engineer mentioned this was a known issue. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif Have any of you seen or heard of this?

We have an 05 that has been sitting outside almost two months waiting for an approval from the customer or ford. It has a cracked block as well. The reason it has been sitting is that the customer has a banks kit on it and ford will not approve an engine for it. This engine also has the star pattern outside of the center of the cup and almost covers the entire face of the piston.

the crack is between the #1 and #3 piston on the bottom edge of the block, The customer claims he is going to take ford to court over it. so for now we have $50,000 yard ornament /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Oh I have the HotLine involved alright. I called them as part of the prior-approval process. They had gave me additional instructions to take pictures and e-mail them to an address they supplied. I spent 45 minutes making sure I got quality shots with as much detail as I could and then more time at home editing them and sending them off. I CC'd the e-mail to myself and received it immediately. I didn't hear back from them for a day until I called them. "We don't see your message here, could you re-send it?" Sure. I did so immediately. I called back two hours later - "no, they don't have it. Can I call you back at this number?" Call never came. Next day the approval showed up on the PTS site with a message about not having the photos and that an engineer might be calling.

Maybe I should post it on this site and they can look at them in 350 X 262 resolution like everyone else! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif Can you tell how pissed I am? I spent my own time on doing this for them and Ford's god-damn servers are so freaking wound up tight that my e-mails cant get through!!! Maybe Ford employees should start using Hot-Mail addresses. Don't get me wrong, I love being able to reciprocate in helping with the product but for cryin out loud, does everything have to be a challenge? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif

  • 4 weeks later...

Hey Keith you obviously have server space just link them to the photos they need. it's almost imposable to send photos to ford

Good thought, but...

Despite having put this web site together I am a bit on the shy side and would be humbled to even mention it to anyone there directly. Now, I realize this site is for us and I also have an open invite to anyone working for or associated with Ford to join us but I still have apprehensions as to how this site is/will be perceived. Yes, I am aware that there are "people from Ford" that are members. I know, I know, I put it out there... I just feel funny. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif
