Aaron
Doing heads on a 2007 F-450. Stand pipe that came in the new cylinder head set has a scarf-cut Teflon seal underneath the D-ring at the second position from the top, right after the check valve. Any ideas why this has changed? It appears that if you removed this ring, the D-ring would flop around in there big time, so it appears to be a backer/blocking ring of some sort. However, that ring, when compressed with your fingers, is larger than the D ring on the stand pipe. Also this standpipe requires a 12mm hex to drive it as opposed to the customary 10mm or 1/2 square. Hotline has never seen/heard of this.
Aaron
Whoops... Thanks Alex Alex Bruene B1342 DONWAY FORD SALES LTD SCARBOROUGH , ON posted Mar 12, 2010 8:22PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That is the updated tube. They've been using them on 4.5s for a couple of years now, I've been wondering how long it would take to apply to 6.0s. You can't get "dummy plug" seals anymore either. The seals change up to a new plug that has the teflon seals on them. So, any idea as to the benefits of this? And the last standpipe I bought stand-alone had the regular style seals on it, maybe this is a REALLY new deal, since this is a 20mm dowel kit and the package date on the box was fairly recent. Alex Bruene
So, any idea as to the benefits of this? I imagine it works... quite well. Prior to these new style tubes coming out for 4.5s, we had a few that would come in on an almost semi-yearly basis with at least one blown out port-plug d-ring. Since installing the new plugs, I have yet to have a repeat HP oil leak on an LCF. I know the 4.5 oil manifolds are a little different than 6.0 manifolds, so I imagine that's why LCFs had more issues.
blown99
The crankcase to head tube kit is the same between the 4.5l and the 6.0l. Navistar had a recall on these tubes for the 4.5l. This kit has been the replacement for at least the last 2yrs on the navistar side. Some of the new head tube kits come through without the white Teflon back up ring. Don't know why, but I have not had any issues when installing them without the teflon ring. We can't get replacement o-rings for the tubes on the international side, you have to buy the entire tube. It is also recommended to replace them everytime you remove them, including the dummy plug.
mchan68
Okay, I was strolling through our parts department today to look for a hardware part (it's self-serve for me), and when I happened upon a bin full of dummy rail plugs -W302195 (I make our parts manager stock a few of those), I also happened upon another set of dummy rail plugs I hadn't seen before. These are the exact same looking dummy rail plugs as aforementioned, except that they have a white plastic seal beneath each d-ring with part number -W302908 I believe it is. Is this some sort of change up that I'm unaware of?
