One pissed off customer

So I had an 07 f-350 come in last week, 157000km, smoking white. Has a chip with on dash monitor, set to extreme (of course-- is there any other positions?) cold air intake with the filter nearly sucked inside out, and dual exhaust. Head gaskets have obviously been leaking for a while, by the dried coolant spray on the hood, battery box, and everywhere else. Egr cooler has now popped and is eating coolant at a reported 8 litres per hundred kms. So, i document my findings, write it up and hand it in. Customer advises he will be taking it home to fix, so , he pays diag and leaves (driving it, by the way) This week he phones back and asks us to delete the story on the work order (that went thru servus 2 weeks ago) so his dealer can fix it on warranty. Apparantly they have no problem doing it, but are worried that the story mentions a chip and they dont want to ge nailed. WTF? I think we all need to take a collective stand on this, and remember we are all on the same team? If one dealer says this and another says that, we all look like douche bags.

Did anybody(from around here anyways) catch that piece on the calgary news troubleshooter a few weeks ago? Apparantly a guy took his truck in to a dealer for a hard start concern, was told it wasnt warrantable, spent $1300 or something, after a few tries, and was no better. Took it to another dealer, they fixed it on warranty, first try. He had the news troubleshooter guy look into it, and of course the media blew it all to hell, making dealer #1 look like criminals. And yes, dealer names were used. It was a Chevrolet duramax, and chev dealers.

That night they ran a phone poll, if consumers trust thier mechanic. The next night the reslts came in and i think it was 70% said no.

Time to change our image and reputation with the public (our customers) guys.

This is why we never deny the warranty ourselves here. We send the information along to Ford and they make the decision. The warranty contract is between Ford and the vehicle owner. Over the years many a claim I felt sure to be denied, Ford said to perform the repair under warranty. We won't be left holding the bag.

Saw that reporting piece of 'junk' - got to love opinions that sell. I hope that the second dealership (not wanting to metion the name for leagal reasons that place by blackfoot motorsports)has to go through an audit.

Just wait till you do the job and the you are getting 'cut' because someone in the warranty aproval office thinks that it isn't a justified claim.

who made the decision to not warrany it? you or ford? we have put in for prior approval on coolers and gaskets before, told them about aftermarkets parts like you had on that one and they gave the ok to do it. our shop foreman doesnt want us doing anything warranty that may have a reason not to be warranty, but thats is to keep our numbers down. it also keeps our pockets empty. so i always let ford make the decision. that way its out of my hands and i probly stil get the job.

Ford won't generally deny engine related powertrain warranty on 6.0l diesels with programmers unless it is catastrophic damage or head gaskets blown without egr cooler blown. They have always told us to continue with repair under warranty. When I ask why, they said it is to hard and expensive to prove legally(with lawyers and court) due to the amount of problems these engines have seen just from stock settings.
