I know "rebuilding" would be cheaper but on a 7 year old turbo why wouldn't you recommend replacing the CRH? If there IS something else wrong with the shaft or bearing you will be eating the repeat repair not to mention the reman housing has a 12/12 warranty. Just askin. Posted Image

And I am sure if you dig hard enough you will find a kit... Where's LARRY?

Its my truck. i have it completley disassembled and theres no play or wear on the wheels or shaft, housing is fine, cam moves freeley. Thats probly all they don to a chra anyway, half of them are bad out of the box here latley too. like i said all its doing is seaping oil a tiny bit.

I work for an international dealer and am not aware of any turbo rebuild kits for that turbo. They stopped offering individual pieces for turbos many years ago. I think the 6.0 turbo is based on a gt38. If so, then a standard seal and bearing kit would work. I would try bullseye power. http://www.bullseyepower.com/contactus.asp

You give them the dimensions of the parts you have and they will supply you with the correct repair kit.

Maybe you are thinking of the turbo reconditioning kits that international offers to repair rusty and sticking exhaust housings?

I know I don't do it, personally... Typically if I've got a turbo off, the CHRA is fucked anyway, so it gets one of those, and typically a new unison ring, usually the actuator cam has worn the slot in the ring into a + sign.

Just out of curiosity what do you guys charge for a unison ring customer pay? Part price.

What is exactly is the point to this question? Are you thinking that the price of the unison ring is a little astronomical, perhaps? If so, I couldn't agree more.

Yes mike, that is exactly my point and I can't remember shit apparently. Yesterday I priced out a unison ring for a customer pay repair (not common for me) and I was shocked that that metal ring was $161.00! I concede that the part has some machining involved that requires accuracy, but wow!!! I know, I know. Diesels are expensive.

I was talking to Larry the other day about rebuilding turbos and he said you can have a machine shop machine a new slot on the other side of the unison ring.

A reputable machine shop can machine a new slot for about 30-35 dollars. Usually about a hour depending on how busy they are. The pivot shaft on the other hand is something else. If it's worn your shit out of luck. We have tried welding and remachining, chroming, ceramic coating nothing works, the heat treat on that shaft doesn't take well to repairs.

Keith, you think that's outrageous. How about $277.00?. And I thought we were supposed to be dollar for dollar between US and CDN.

Gonna have my buddy start running them off on his water jet, and make the hole in the center about .005 larger so it doesn't grab the CHRA as readily as it seems to.
