Cetane
I found this the other day while looking through the Ford Fleet website. I couldnt find the link again via ford fleet but it was listed through eepod.com. We use this tool all the time, with different software. It might help some of your customers with money burning a hole in their pocket.... http://www.eepod.com/page6.html
Jim Warman
I would have thought that at least a few guys would have jumped all over this... The number of times that IDS has rejected my request for a manual regen... the number of times I've either "had" to drive a customers truck properly as part of the "fix"... or had to suggest that the customer get off his ass and do something to mend his ways... or seen a flat rate tech grovelling for the time he wasted doing what the customer is supposed to do.. The aftermarket will always find "work arounds". They don't have to be "good", "acceptable" or "legal". Across the board... we see people that "have" to do things in one particular way being penalized by people that can get away with blue bloody murder (being the "government inspection guy", I get to see many inequities in the system). I wonder if this marvelous tool will apply the same conmstraints to a manual regen as the IDS... or will it say "damn the other shit... full speed ahead!!!". Keith Browning
I was going to but then my brain told me that I already knew about this and *thought* I had made a post about it. I guess not. My FSE had sent me an email about this quite a few months back. Supposedly this tool works just fine. I wish the IDS function did. I still say the trucks should have some kind of on-board manual regen function and switch.
Aaron
I wish you could use a button on the dash -- like on the big trucks. Should be an installation kit through Ford...manual override, to regenerate when required when the driving conditions don't meet the regeneration requirements. I have passed the info on to a couple fleets I deal with.
Cetane
I think this tool was developed in cooperation with the Ford fleet guys. I am sure it works fine but I doubt it would do any better than IDS. The requirements you speak of dont come from IDS they are mandated in the calibration to avoid conditions that would not allow the system to regen properly. If it wont regen properly by itself, it wont be any better with this tool. I think the benefit to this tool is the ability to regen at optimal times. If you are driving 30mins to the construction site it would be nice to regen at that time rather than have the truck trying to regen while idling the rest of the day. As far as the manual regen button goes, I am sure there is some way of doing that....
