dieseldoc
Well I have finally had it with not having an IDS!!!!! I have a rough running 6.0 and an egr problem I think. My Autoenginuity has been great but I am tired of not having the controls of the IDS on the 6.0. I am at a point where I can afford it and am ready to order one. Since I am not a dealer technician where is the best place to order one from? Can I order one online from rotunda or do I have to go through my local dealer? Or is there a better place to order one from? I have seen them on e-bay but just dont trust getting something like this off their so that is not an option. As always any and all opinions and advice much appreciated. Thanks guys
Bruce Amacker
I bought both of mine directly from Rotunda (800-rotunda) where the current price should be $2714. They used to come with 2 years of calibrations but they reduced that to one year (from Rotunda). Rumor has it that your Ford dealer may be able to match the price and give 2 years calibration updates. Remember they are $500/yr for cals when the free stuff runs out. Call some Ford dealers and get prices and time on cals. If you do get one from a dealer and 2 years cals, GET IT IN WRITING. Don't buy one from Ebay or someone you don't know as there are Chinese knockoffs that look virtually like the OE ones. Also, if I had a VCM that was fritzing out ocasionally, Ebay would be a good place to dump it. Info- http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdirs/wds/diagnosticsites/IDS/MCS/default.asp PS In the long run, don't let the cal subscription run out, they start your new subscription where the old one ran out, not at the current date. If the subscription ran out in May 2008 you'd have to pay $1500 to get it renewed (2 years old ples the next 12 mo). Good Luck!
Fordracer
They are $1900 from Rotunda. They came down in price about 6 months ago. I've bought a few off of ebay to resell them. There are certain things to look for to see if they are not chinese knock offs.
Bruce Amacker
You're sure about that price? Rotunda had some misprints in their cataglogs and fliers that were not found until you actually called to order them....
Fordracer
That's the price listed in Rotunda on the Ford PTS web sight. I called them and they asked if I was a dealer or an indy shop and asked for our P&A code and gave a price of $1,899 for dealers. I don't know what the price is for an indy shop. You can call 1-800-rotunda option 1 to find out. They are on backorder untill the end of the month.
dieseldoc
When you order does it come as a kit with all the needed cabling, discs, programs, etc. needed? Or do you need to be sure to ask for each piece? Is there anything extra a guy should order along with it(like extra cables or accessories)? Keith Browning
I ordered the VCM only because I had a laptop that was suitable... when I ordered mine it came with everything, the VCM, software disk, the VCM to vehicle cable and the VCM to PC USB cable. I recall being the lucky one to un-box the dealership's first IDS full kit with the Panasonic Toughbook and everything was included for that as well. Fordracer
I'm sorry I misunderstood, the price I gave was for the VCM only not the complete IDS. You can get a good used Dell laptop on ebay for less than $500. I'd use a Dell instead of the Toughbook. It works much faster and has a bigger screen. I've had mine since they came out with the IDS and have had no problems.
dieseldoc
I already have a dell latitude d520 with xp pro. I just need the program, cabling, and comm adapter. Is the 2700 for the tool with a laptop? I assume it is the vcm, cables, and program for the 2500 or 2700. I will have to call rotunda and see what they say. Thanks for the input guys. If you are a non dealer will they help you with support or are you on your own?
