Keith Browning
Heads on or heads off?
Bruce Amacker
8 injector sleeves on a 7.3? Those are cake, he shouldn't think about pulling the heads. (Even on a van I don't think you need to) If it's an F we probably would have charged 8-10 hours and had it done in 4 or 5. Add another 2+ for a good flush of the cooling system with strong soap and maybe pulling the stat. This should be a moneymaker. CJ- book rate isn't fair on an older truck, especially if you use warranty time. Somewhere in Mitchell's time book it says to add 10% for each year the truck is old, that starts to level the playing field a bit. Good Luck! Bruce Amacker
We must have covered this already because the images were in the archives. Use this salesman, he's been very supportive with loaning me tools and helping in class: Iron Tite 440-526-0151 Rich Wengatz Page 14 in this catalog: http://www.irontite.com/PDF/Diesel%20Repair%20Catalog.pdf They aren't cheap, though, close to $500 for the basic set without the roll in tool, and another $400+ if you want the roll in tool. Most guys don't use the roll in tool, but it is really slick, used at the factory and in machine shops doing head work. Good Luck!

batmantech
The tools are the same as the ones that you use with head off.ALL CUPS CAN BE REMOVED WITH ENGINE IN PLACE!You take a regular pitman arm puller (the one with the solid two jaws) Remove center bolt-- Find a bolt that threads into the cup removal tap. Put the bolt through the puller and into the tap (that is cut into the cup use a penny to plug the hole), you may have to use some sockets to get a good base for the puller arms Then just turn the bolt to pull up the tap and cup it works very slick. You may find that a nut can be used on the bolt or other slight variations of the set up but thats it. Thanks to Dave from washington state who told me this method, I thought that was pretty nice of him, so I thought I would pass it on to you. Bruce Amacker
Nozzles? They disassembled the injectors and replaced the nozzles? Regardless, that's really cheap.....
eastendpowerstroke
Shop near me did the following on a buddy's pickup. Diag Replace 4 cups Replace 8 injector nozzles Replace 8 injector o-ring sets Replace both UVC harnesses and add clips They charged him $900. PARTS AND LABOR AND TAX IN. Unreal. Seeing that the injectors alone cost more than that even from ebay I'd be real suspicious of the work performed
Aaron
Oh no, just the nozzles. And yes, they took 'em apart and changed just the nozzles. It STILL runs like shit cold, because it needs INJECTORS not TIPS...I already told him thia, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo
Jim Warman
A long f*cking time ago - in a galaxy not so far away - Ann Landers said "if it sounds too good to be true - it probably is". I don't see this as being real hard to understand. I have a pretty good notion of what our shop can and can't do for a thousand bucks. A one thousand dollar job is going to cost one thousand dollars - and I do not care what your door rate is.
